Blake Shelton Fell in Love With Miranda Lambert on Stage Married to Someone Else
Music sometimes bring celebrities together. That was the case for Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who fell in love on stage. Find out which performance brought them together, and how his divorce played into the beginning of his friendship with Gwen Stefani.
Blake Shelton fell for Miranda Lambert on stage
Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams from 2003 to 2006. Williams previously worked as his road manager and is also from Oklahoma, according to Country Fancast. Lambert wasn’t married, but was aware of Shelton’s marriage.
They were then paired to sing together at a concert, and their lives changed. The singers performed together at the CMT 100 Greatest Duets Concert. They sang “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” together and it sparked a connection.
“I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody,” Shelton said on VH1’s Behind the Music via Taste of Country. “I was a married guy, you know? Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”
Lambert added, “We had instant chemistry.” They still claimed they didn’t have a relationship until 2006 after Shelton got a divorce. “Every time I hear [that song], it’s like I instantly go back there,” Shelton later told People. “
They later married and divorced
Shelton and Lambert eventually got married in 2011. But it didn’t last forever. They announced their breakup in 2015 and divorced in the same year.
Shelton later grew closer to Stefani from working on The Voice. They bonded over their divorces.
“I thought it was going to be another one of those things-are-going-to-be-OK talks,” Shelton told Billboard. “She didn’t tell me much, because we didn’t know each other at the time, but she said, ‘I’m going through something very similar to what you’re going through. I understand. And I hate it.’ That’s kind of how our friendship and bond started, that day.”
He continued, “It went from…checking in on each other once a week through email … to ‘Hey here’s my phone number if you ever want to text.’ Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me.”
Shelton and Stefani dated for years before announcing their engagement in October 2020. Lambert also moved on after their relationship. She got married to NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin in 2019.

One thing that has stayed the same is the country singer enjoys performing with his partner. He released multiple duets with Stefani and has performed with her many times.
He was asked if he’d released a duet album with Stefani in the future. “It’s hard for me, honestly,” Shelton said on the Bobby Bones Show. “The more and more time that goes by I’m starting to wonder why even do an album at all. I’m having a blast just putting out singles.” Shelton then said maybe they’ll release enough duets in the future that they’ll be packaged together.
It sounds like Lambert and Shelton’s performance was a powerful moment for them. However, their marriage didn’t last and he’s now performing with someone else.
