Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani: Photos From Their 1st Date Show How Happy They Were Together
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been together for years. The couple have discussed how blissfully happy they have been together both before and after their 2021 wedding. The two Voice coaches stepped out publicly for the first time at the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscars party. Pictures from the event show the love between the couple.
While walking the red carpet ahead of the event, Stefani and Shelton scarcely took their eyes or hands off each other. Stefani wore a sheer red dress with red satin petals from Yanina Couture, which she paired with a red clutch and diamond bracelet. Shelton opted for a significantly more casual look. He wore a black shirt and jacket with jeans and boots.
While Stefani and Shelton began dating in late 2015, the party was their first public date.
“That was my first public date with Blake Shelton, actually,” Stefani said on The Kelly Clarkson Show (via NBC). “It was the Oscars Vanity Fair party. I think I played at the party and then we went out that night.”
Shelton rarely walks the red carpet at events, which makes the night seem all the more romantic to Stefani.
“He never does red carpets, now that I know him,” she said. “That always melts me when I see it because it’s, like, such a moment for me. A good one.”
The pair chatted with other celebrity couples at the event, including Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama, and Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel.
According to sources who also attended the party, Stefani and Shelton were visibly elated to be there together.
“They acted like giddy teenagers at a high school dance,” another guest at the party told People. “They were holding hands the whole night and didn’t leave each other’s sides. I don’t think either of them stopped smiling the entire time they were there.”
Stefani and Shelton met as coaches on The Voice. In 2015, they were both going through divorces, splitting from Gavin Rossdale and Miranda Lambert. They bonded over their heartbreak, but Stefani said she took a step back when she realized she was developing feelings for Shelton.
“We had just met, and it was chaos. Both of our lives were in complete turmoil, all over the ground. Nothing could save us at that point,” Stefani told People. “There was a point where I was like, ‘I can’t even talk to you. This is insane. I already have enough problems. This is not happening anymore. We’re not going to text or nothing.'”
Ultimately, he won her over by asking her to work on a song with him. She later came to view it as a blessing to have Shelton to lean on through her divorce.
“Something that I wanted since I was a little girl is to be married and have this love that I saw my parents have and have babies,” she said. “That dream was completely ruined; it was crushed, and I had to figure out how I was going to move forward and make a new dream and God putting Blake in my life was just that miracle.”
