Blake Shelton Just Clapped Back at Fans Calling His New Song ‘Minimum Wage’ Tone-Deaf
It looks like Blake Shelton is starting 2021 on an interesting note. While many people are still reeling from 2020 and the continued coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has brought about so much pain and hardship, Shelton is delivering new music, and it’s not exactly what fans want to hear.
Shelton recently debuted his new single, “Minumum Wage,” to shocked fans who have called the lyrics hurtful and insensitive. Now, Shelton is responding to the backlash, and his reaction to all of the criticism is fairly shocking.
Blake Shelton recently released his new song ‘Minimum Wage’
Shelton began the new year by releasing a new single, “Minimum Wage,” which he debuted on NBC’s New Year’s Eve. The song is meant to be a loving tribute to his fiancé Gwen Stefani and how she makes him feel.
During a New Years’ Eve interview with Carson Daley, Shelton spoke about 2020 and how it affected him. “I can’t speak for everybody else, but I had a great 2020,” he said. “Even though a lot of bad stuff happened personally for me, I got engaged to Gwen Stefani, and I don’t care what else happened besides that. That made it a great year.”
Fans are calling Blake Shelton’s ‘Minimum Wage’ tone-deaf
While most fans were thrilled to hear new music from Shelton, they were taken aback by the lyrics in “Minimum Wage.” The song includes lines like “Girl, your love can make a man feel rich on minimum wage,” as well as “You can make a one-bedroom apartment feel like a house up on the hill.”
Since there has been so much hardship across the globe this past year, and celebrities seem increasingly oblivious to what others are going through, fans of the “Nobody But You” singer were taken aback by how callous the song sounded.
Fans were quick to call Shelton ignorant, tone-deaf, and lacking sensitivity. Now, the “God’s Country” singer is responding.
Blake Shelton just clapped back at fans critics of his new song
Though he’s worth $100 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, it looks like Shelton is insisting that writing about this topic amid a pandemic is just fine. Country singer-songwriter Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar both publically rushed to the country singer’s defense when fans questioned the song and its lyrics.
“Now, they want to attack country singers for being successful,” Dunn wrote on Instagram. “I slept on a mattress on the floor in a musician friend’s spare bedroom and played BEER JOINTS / DIVE BARS for years before I ever made a $100.”
Other fans have also rushed to Shelton’s defense calling the song, “excellent” and saying that The Voice coach is a “genuine” person. However, one fan made it plan by saying the song is good, but the timing is all off. Still. Shelton has welcomed the support without addressing the issue behind his lyrics. He tweeted, “When your fans, @RonnieDunn, and @sammyhagar have your back it’s gonna be a good year. Bring it on 2021.”
