‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton Reveals the Best Part of Judging The Competetion Series — and It Has to Do With Gwen Stefani
Blake Shelton has been judging NBC’s The Voice since it premiered in 2011 and has had plenty of memorable moments on the show. But one of his greatest achievements as a celebrity coach was meeting his now-fiancée Gwen Stefani, who the singer says is the best part of having hosted the competition series for the past decade.

During the latest episode of The Voice, which aired on May 3, Shelton opened up about his love story with Stefani while looking back on the show’s 20 seasons in honor of its 10th anniversary.
Though he’s known for cracking jokes on the show, the country singer was surprisingly earnest as he reflected on his love for the No Doubt singer, whom he met while judging the singing competition series.
While getting to work alongside Stefani has been a highlight, Shelton admits that meeting the “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker is the “greatest” thing he’s experienced during his time on the show.
“People ask me all the time, ‘What’s the greatest thing that has happened for you since you’ve been on The Voice?'” he recalled in an Instagram clip from the episode. “That’s a no-brainer, right? I met my fiancée here. It’s hard to resist Gwen Stefani. You know, here’s this iconic rock star coming to be a coach on The Voice in a black minivan. That was cool to me.”
He continued, “I love it when she’s here. She brings a very complicated element of competition, for me in particular. But I love that. I love the challenge. Just knowing that she’s there, and she has my back, is pretty cool.”

Shelton and Stefani’s relationship first kicked off after she joined The Voice as a judge during its seventh season in 2014.

Though the singers didn’t start out as friends, they eventually built a connection that turned into a romance after both called it quits from their significant others — Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale — in 2015.
After dating for five years, Shelton proposed to Stefani in October 2020.
Blake Shelton would have never predicted Gwen Stefani romance
In the clip from the episode, Shelton admits that he would have never expected to have a relationship with Stefani. In fact, the thought of it would have made him laugh had someone brought it up to him years back.
“If you would have told me back in 1996 that Gwen Stefani was gonna be my girlfriend, I would have laughed you out of the room,” the “Ol’ Red” crooner said. “You know what I’m saying? I would have thought you were crazy. Saying it right now, I almost bust out laughing. That’s how ridiculous it is.”
Although their pairing seemed unlikely to Shelton when he was younger, it’s now quite real given the fact that he and Stefani are currently planning their wedding.
Though they’re still working out the details, Stefani recently revealed that she and Shelton are keeping their big day “very simple.”
“I think the guest list will not have a lot of musicians,” she said while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers in April 2021. “It’ll be, like, my mom and my dad and just literally going to be just family, and we are looking forward to that.”
