Blake Shelton Is Teaming Up With ‘Yellowstone’ Creator Taylor Sheridan for a New Show
Blake Shelton has a new singing competition series in the works. The Grammy-nominee is teaming up with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan for a show about the search for the next music superstar.
Blake Shelton’s new show will premiere in fall 2025
The Road (working title) will premiere in the fall 2025 on CBS. The docu-format series will follow a yet-to-be-announced superstar on a journey to discover the next big musical act. Singers will join the headliner on tour and perform as opening acts at venues around the country. They’ll fight to win over local fans to secure a spot on the next stop on the tour.
The Road will give viewers an unvarnished look into the gritty life of a touring musician. Episodes will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into how the music industry works, while also showing what happens when up-and-coming artists head out on tour in pursuit of their dreams.
Shelton is an executive producer of the new show, along with Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser.
‘The Voice’ alum is a ‘big fan’ of Taylor Sheridan
Shelton – who left The Voice in May 2023 – said he’s looking forward to working with Sheridan on the new show.
“I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator, Lee, on The Road,” Shelton said in a statement. “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
“There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture,” said Sheridan. “No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road – literally. Get in the van, go to the next town and win the crowd. Do it enough, and you become the next leader. Simple as that.”
‘The Road’ is CBS’s first new talent competition series since 2022
In addition to Yellowstone, Sheridan is the creator of a string of popular TV shows, including Mayor of Kingstown, 1883, 1923, Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. The Road is his latest foray into unscripted television. He’s also an executive producer of The Last Cowboy, a horse-riding competition series. Season 5 premiered Nov. 15 on CMT.
The Road will be CBS’s first talent competition series since 2022’s Come Dance With Me, which lasted just one season. It’s the network’s first music competition series since Rock Star, which aired for two seasons from 2005 to 2006.
