Blake Shelton Thinks ‘The Voice’ Contestants Are Onto Kelly Clarkson’s Tricks
Season 18 of The Voice is off with a strong start with all of the coaches building their teams. Kelly Clarkson is the reigning champion coach given her team member won last season. But she still had a rocky start this season. Find out what Blake Shelton had to say about it and more.
Kelly Clarkson is back after being the winning coach on ‘The Voice’
Last season Jake Hoot won season 17. This was Clarkson’s third win, which makes her a big threat this season. However, she had an interesting strategy coming into season 18.
Clarkson told Nick Jonas that they need to team up with John Legend against Shelton this season. Legend seemed to be on the same page with this.
Another promo before the season started showed the other coaches giving Jonas advice. “I just want to warn you of a couple things. Blake lies like a lot. He will say and do anything to get someone on his team,” Clarkson said.
This season Shelton has pulled a few tricks to try to get people on his team including using a puppy. However, he hasn’t actually fought that much with Jonas this season. There is another unexpected rivalry.
Nick Jonas and Kelly Clarkson have a rivalry
Clarkson started off wanting to team up with Jonas to beat Shelton. But they actually have been going up against each other during blind auditions repeatedly.
“You guys have been fighting a lot,” Legend said in an episode. “Nick and I, I called it,” said Clarkson. “Before we even started the blinds I looked at him and I was like ‘We’re gonna turn for the same people.'”
This season the talk show host is offering artists Team Kelly jackets again. When one artist seemed to be swayed by this, Jonas offered his own jacket to fight back.
Jonas also used his one block on Clarkson for an artist named Arei Moon who sang her song, “Miss Independent” to audition. “I thought I had this in the bag and then I got blocked. That was hurtful, Nick,” she told him.
Blake Shelton thinks contestants are onto her
This season started with Clarkson having a hard time winning artists over. That’s partially because Jonas has put up a good fight. But Shelton also had something to say about her rocky start.
“Kelly is still up to her old tricks. I think the artists who audition for this show, who watch the show, they’re kind of onto her, though,” he told ABC News Radio. “She has a little tougher time this season getting people on her team than she’s ever had before,” he said. “In fact, there was a day or two she was starting to get depressed, which made me very happy.”
He went on to talk about how the other coaches are doing this season. First he talked about Legend.
“I don’t know what it is about that guy,” the country singer admitted. “He never really has to compete that hard to get people on his team. But with Nick here, he gets humbled a few times.” There is still time for the coaches to complete their teams. Fans will have to wait to see if Clarkson’s luck changes.
