‘Blue Bloods:’ Donnie Wahlberg Used to Host a Surprising Behind-the-Scenes Activity
Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg has a successful music and acting career. How does the busy actor unwind after a long day? This might be one way he used to kick back and relax. Here’s the surprising activity Wahlberg used to host for his Blue Bloods cast members.
Donnie Wahlberg is known as a big prankster on the ‘Blue Bloods’ set
Wahlberg knows how to have fun. During an interview with “CBS Watch!” his Blue Bloods co-stars agree he is the biggest prankster on the set. Co-star Bridget Moynahan said Wahlberg is always joking. “He’s always keeping it light and he’s always goofy,” she said. Although Wahlberg likes to laugh and have fun, he’s ready to work when it’s time to settle down and be serious. In a 2012 interview, Moynahan told Deseret News she sees Wahlberg as an essential part of the Blue Bloods cast. “Tom [Selleck] is the face of the show, but Donnie is the engine that keeps everything going,” Moynahan said.

In her “CBS Watch!” interview, Moynahan revealed Wahlberg used to host a fun activity behind the scenes. “He used to host Friday night disco night,” said Moynahan. Wahlberg confirmed her statement, saying the disco night included a disco ball. “We used to have disco Friday on set with an actual disco ball and we would dance and party down in the squad room,” said Wahlberg. Who’s the best dancer? Vanessa Ray says Will Estes dances quite well. “Will used to have some pretty sick moves,” said Ray.
The Blue Bloods disco Friday is quite fitting since Wahlberg is a member of New Kids on the Block. This behind-the-scenes party was probably a way for the cast and crew to have fun and unwind after a long day of filming. Here’s a look at Wahlberg dancing during one of their famous disco nights.
Will Estes is another ‘Blue Bloods’ cast member who has a behind-the-scenes ritual
Wahlberg isn’t the only Blue Bloods cast member with a quirky behind-the-scenes ritual. Estes reportedly likes to play basketball between scenes. The CBS website revealed when Estes has downtime between scenes, he plays basketball if there’s a court nearby. Estes told Men’s Journal he tries to stay in shape for his roles. He also tries to maintain a balanced diet. Here’s what Estes shared about his workout routine:
I try to train based on the role. I played a marine once so all I did was running, push-ups, and boxing. I did anything that was combat-oriented. I would go shoot and box and just sort of get into the whole mindset. In general, I just like to run around and stay active. I did a little gymnastics when I was a kid so I’ll run around and find a bar and try to do as many pull-ups as I can do. In terms of nutrition, I just try to eat clean.
