‘Blue Bloods’: 3 Things Fans Hate About Nicky Reagan
Blue Bloods fans look forward to new episodes each week. They can’t wait to see what’s going on with the members of the Reagan family and the new situations Frank, Erin, Donnie, Jamie, and Eddie must navigate. However, some fans aren’t too happy with Nicky’s character. Here are three things they hate about her.
1. Fans say Nicky makes the liberal position look “dumb”
One Redditor thinks Nicky makes the liberal position look “dumb” and “naïve.” According to this fan, the character doesn’t seem to be able to present viewpoints in a way that is rational. “The worst part of Nicky is that she makes the liberal position always appear dumb and naïve. The show needs a liberal character than can present rational viewpoints, not emotional ones. Don’t get me wrong; I am fairly conservative in my views. But I do enjoy a stimulating debate where both sides are presented in an intelligent and rational fashion,” said the fan during a Reddit discussion.
2. Other fans say the acting for Nicky’s character is really bad
For some fans, it’s not only the character who annoys them but also the acting. This Blue Bloods fan explains what some viewers find annoying. “She’s one of the most annoying characters I’ve ever seen on television. Part of what causes it—to me at least—is the fact that the actress is so bad. Nicky has the same facial expressions and half open mouth no matter what super dramatic thing she’s complaining about or what drama she’s trying to stir. It’s awful.”
3. Fans say Nicky is a “know-it-all”
Another issue fans have with Nicky is they feel she comes off as someone who knows everything and no one can tell her what to do. Some think Nicky was added to the cast so she can provide a foil for Erin’s character. “I think they put her in the writing to be her mother’s backup on certain topics and the more liberal voice–which is necessary in some cases; don’t get me wrong. But she came off a lot better in the earlier seasons before she kind of became a know-it-all, millennial college kid trope, or at least they started writing her like it,” said another fan.
Fans find these other two ‘Blue Bloods’ characters just as annoying as Nicky
Nicky isn’t the only character fans seem to dislike. Many fans on Reddit also seemed to have a problem with Erin and Eddie:
I don’t see another Blue Bloods [episode] thanks to Erin, Nicky, and Eddie. Nicky is so annoying. Erin in not so many words told Frank that she would throw him under the bus to protect her boss, and of course there’s Eddie. I would once like to see a scene with her not fighting for one thing or another with her so-called gold boy. And then there’s the dinner discussion! All that spit flying around. Never a civil conversation.
Some ‘Blue Bloods’ fans have complaints about the show overall
There’s at least one problem fans have with each of the Blue Bloods characters. Another complaint fans have is about Tom Selleck’s character, Frank Reagan. Some fans say Frank sighs too much and he’s too dramatic when he’s presented with a problem. Although some fans look forward to the family dinners, others find them irritating. Other fans feel the storylines are a bit “preachy.”
