Donnie Wahlberg isn’t giving up the uniform just yet. The actor will star in a Blue Bloods spinoff for CBS, the network announced on Tuesday.

Boston Blue will see Wahlberg reprise his role as officer Danny Reagan. In the new show, he takes a job with the Boston PD, where he’s partnered with detective Lena Peters. Like Danny, Lena comes from a family with a history of serving in law enforcement.

CBS has given Boston Blue (working title) a straight-to-series order, with the show set to premiere in the 2025-26 broadcast season.

Donnie Wahlberg Says an Emotional Goodbye to ‘Blue Bloods’

Wahlberg starred in 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, along with Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes. There’s no word yet on whether any other Blue Bloods cast members will appear on the new show. The Blue Bloods series finale aired in December 2024.

After CBS announced the end of the cop drama, Wahlberg repeatedly expressed dismay over the show’s cancellation. In an April 2024 appearance on the Drew Barrymore Show, he said he was “upset and sad” that the network declined to renew the series.

The news that a Blue Bloods spinoff is in the works doesn’t come as a total surprise. In June, a Paramount exec hinted the company was looking at franchise extensions for the show.
