‘Blue Bloods’: Was It Actually Love at First Sight for Eddie and Jamie?
Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) are getting married in the Blue Bloods Season 9 finale. The characters didn’t officially become a couple until seasons after they met, but when did they fall in love? This is what the cast had to say about their love story including when Jamie fell in love with Eddie.
Eddie and Jamie met in Season 4 but didn’t become a couple until Season 9
It probably felt like it took forever for the two officers to fall in love. That’s because Eddie was introduced in Season 4 and they didn’t really become a couple until the end of Season 8.
What made those behind the show finally pull the trigger on Jamko? “Well, it had run its course,” Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade told TV Insider. “It was clear from the start that the two actors had great chemistry and that all our writers were able to write to that chemistry, and then at a certain point in a long-running show, which this has certainly become, you do need to change things up.”
He also talked about Ray and Estes’ hesitation around their characters finally getting together. Wade said, “Will and Vanessa needed to come around a bit; I needed to put it in some context, and assure them that we weren’t going to turn them into ‘the happy couple staring at each other over a checkered tablecloth at their neighborhood Italian restaurant.'”
Vanessa Ray said Jamie fell in love with Eddie right away
The show released a video looking back at the story of Jamko. The cast got to give their opinions on the cute TV couple.
Although it took a long time for Eddie and Jamie to get together, Ray thinks their feelings were there from the start. “Eddie Janko is a rookie cop and she rides along with Jamie Reagan who immediately falls in love with her,” said the actress in the video. “But has to push down his feelings.”
Estes quietly laughs at the statement but he doesn’t deny it. Other cast members think that feelings were there right from the beginning too.
“I think at the beginning Jamko always showed a spark of chemistry that could not be denied,” said Sami Gayle, who plays Nicky Reagan.
Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, also talked about the TV couple’s working relationship. “I think that Jamie and Eddie struggled with keeping their relationship professional, and recognizing the feelings that they had for each other,” she said.
Donnie Wahlberg touched on why the couple works so well together. “I think Jamie and Eddie’s personalities work together because they’re complete yin and yang,” he said. “Will is very quiet, and Vanessa or Eddie is very bright, shiny, happy. So they complement each other very well.”
Fans definitely agree about that. The couple will tie the knot in the episode, “Something Blue.” The finale airs Friday, May 10, 10/9c on CBS.
