Is Blue Ivy, (Beyoncé’s daughter,) the Youngest Artist to Win a BET Award?
Blue Ivy Carter is already snagging a few awards, just like her parents. Most recently, she made music history with her involvement in The Lion King: The Gift. Here’s what we know about Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter and her impressive award-win at the BET Awards.
Beyoncé featured Blue Ivy on ‘The Lion King: The Gift,’ for the song ‘Brown Skin Girl’
Some know her from her visual album, Lemonade, while others know her from voice acting in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Lion King. Thanks to her collaboration with this film, Beyoncé went on to create the album, The Lion King: The Gift.
Beyoncé featured artists and producers from Africa, as well as artists like her eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. Blue Ivy appeared on the song titled “Brown Skin Girl.” Beyoncé premiered “Brown Skin Girl” on Spotify on July 19, 2019.
Within a few days, it earned over 4 million plays on the music streaming platform. On Beyoncé’s YouTube channel, the video for “Brown Skin Girl” received over 2 million views. The song’s popularity was even recognized on music charts, jumping to the No. 15 spot on the United States iTunes music chart.
‘Brown Skin Girl’ scored big at this year’s BET Awards
In true Beyoncé fashion, the 2020 BET Awards brought a number of awards and nominations, most of which were for The Lion King: The Gift. She also received the Humanitarian Award for her work promoting the Black Lives Matter movement and plant-based lifestyles.
The artist took her inspiring and empowering message to the 2020 BET Awards after winning the Humanitarian Award. Although performers were socially distanced due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Beyoncé still urged viewers to use their voices to promote change.
“You’re proving to our ancestors that their struggles were not in vain,” she said. “I’m encouraging you to continue to take action, continue to change and dismantle a racist and unequal system. We have to vote like our life depends on it, because it does.”
Blue Ivy became the youngest artist ever to win the award
Thanks to The Lion King: The Gift, Blue Ivy is stepping into the spotlight. The artist snagged the BET Her Award for “Brown Skin Girl,” along with Beyoncé, Wizkid, and SAINt JHN, following right in her mother’s footsteps. At only 8-years-old, this made her the youngest artist to ever nab the award.
This wouldn’t be the first time Blue Ivy stole the show, though. Earlier this year, she shared a hand-washing PSA with fans on social media. Earlier this year, Blue Ivy and her mother won the 2020 NAACP Image Awards. Music by Beyoncé and Blue Ivy, including “Brown Skin Girl,” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and most major streaming platforms.
