Bob Dylan Wanted to Turn 1 of His Songs Into a Film
Over the years, a handful of hit songs have been adapted into movies — and Bob Dylan felt one of his classic rock songs should be a movie as well. After all, he felt it stood out from all his other songs. Here’s how the public reacted to this song.
Bob Dylan said this was the most ‘visual’ song he ever wrote
During a 1985 interview with Spin, Dylan discussed a whole host of topics, including Andy Warhol’s film Chelsea Girls, John Lennon’s “Mother,” and the idea that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. He also discussed his own music at length. He had strong feelings about his song “Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love).”
“‘Tight Connection to My Heart’ is a very visual song,” he opined. “I want to make a movie out of it…. I think it’s going to go past on the way, but of all the songs I’ve ever written, that might be one of the most visual.”
Afterward, Dylan discussed what separated that track from all the other songs he wrote. “Of all the songs I’ve written, that’s the one that’s got characters that can be identified with. Whatever the f*ck that means. I don’t know, I may be trying to make it more important than it is, but I can see the people in it.”
Bob Dylan compared ‘Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love)’ to this classic song
Subsequently, he compared “Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love)” to the American folk song “Rambler Gambler,” also known as “The Rambling Gambler,” which he covers early in his career. “Have you ever heard that song ‘I’m a Rambler, I’m a Gambler,’ … ‘I once had a sweetheart, age was 16, she was the Flower of Belton and the Rose of Saline?’ Same girl, maybe older.”
Bob Dylan has second thoughts about turning ‘Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love)’ into a film
Afterward, he mentioned “Tight Connection to My Heart” again, opining “I don’t know, maybe it should stay a song.” A handful of classic songs have inspired movies, like Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant and the perennial favorite “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” However, Dylan has yet to adapt “Tight Connection to My Heart” into a movie.
How the word reacted to Bob Dylan’s ‘Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love)’
Clearly, Dylan had some kind things to say about “Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love).” However, the American public was not as enamored with the song as Dylan was. Even though it was released as a single, the track did not reach the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s parent album, Empire Burlesque, fared a little better. It reached No. 33 on the Billboard 200. “Tight Connection to My Heart” hasn’t been adapted into a film, however, it seems to have found somewhat of an audience through its parent album.
