Bobby Brown Reportedly Feels Vindicated After Years of Speculation He Ruined Whitney Houston
Many fans of Whitney Houston blamed her marriage to Bobby Brown as the reason for her downfall. Despite both Houston and Brown maintaining their love for one another, Brown took a hit for Houston’s perceived demise. Since his reality series began airing, allowing him to tell his side of the story, Brown is reportedly feeling a weight lifted off his shoulder.
Sources say Bobby Brown feels vindicated by new documentary special and docuseries
Brown has been bearing it all in his new A&E documentary special and subsequent series. He detailed much about his marriage with Houston, debunking myths that he was responsible for Houston’s choices, such as drugs and her career stall. Sources tell The Sun that Brown is “finally, his version of events about the real Whitney is now out there.”
He added that it was all done respectfully, just in Brown’s truth. “He didn’t throw Whitney under the bus, but certainly made it clear that she was no angel or squeaky clean church-raised kid, the source added. He claims he’s a close friend of Brown, who worked on the A&E show. “She was a street girl with a tough personality and a bigger drug addiction than he ever realized, and she was the driving force for getting high long before he found himself spiraling out of control.”
As the source notes, Brown needed to do so in order to heal. “He felt he needed his say after so long, and in his words,” he added. The important thing to him was that he said it all on camera, so there could be mistaking what he meant. He wrote a memoir opening up on his marriage, but seeing him on television, expressing his emotions so powerfully, resonated so much more with audiences.
Whitney Houston’s brother revealed that he introduced her to drugs
Up until a 2013 interview with Houston’s mother Cissy, and her brother Michael, Brown remained mum regarding being blamed for Houston’s demise with drugs. In the interview, Michael admitted to introducing his sister to drugs. It was Cissy’s first time hearing the revelation. She’s previously been warned by Houston’s friend and former employee, Robyn Crawford, that Houston was using drugs.
“I feel responsible for what I let go so far,” he told Oprah Winfrey of the “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” singer. “We were always, you know, being together most of the time, and her following behind me — I taught her to drive. We played together — everything that you do together as you’re growing up — and then when you get into drugs, you do that together too, and it just got out of hand.”
When Oprah flat out asked Michael if he was the one who started Houston down the path of addiction, he answered honestly. “I would say, yeah, we did everything together, so once I was into that, then she followed suit,” he said. “I think probably the first time we ever, she ever did it was probably, you know — but you gotta understand, at the time, the ‘80s, it was acceptable…. In the entertainment industry it was just like, available. It wasn’t like a bad word like it is now. You know what I’m saying? We didn’t know. We just didn’t know.”
The singer believes he could have helped Whitney Houston if they hadn’t divorced
While Brown was able to maintain his sobriety, Houston, unfortunately, was not. She died in 2012 of an accidental drowning. The autopsy reported that cocaine was discovered in her system. But Brown says they both fought to try and get sober together during their marriage but failed.
“It was really rough because I was so addicted. I had to be put into medical detox first,” he told People Magazine. “And then the Bible got me through. It was about becoming healthier for my daughter [Bobbi Kristina] and for the rest of my kids.”
He says he believes he could have saved the “I’m Your Baby Tonight” singer. “I think we could have helped each other out,” he revealed in his forthcoming A&E documentary and reality series. “I think she’d still be here if we hadn’t divorced.”
