Bobby Flay Is Challenging Fans to Do This 1 Thing
When celebrity chef, Bobby Flay, asks for something, people respond. In celebration of Super Bowl LIV, Flay posted a challenge to uplift others who have the same love of cats that he does. Read on to find out how to participate and why another celebrity chef went full Mean Girls on Flay for the post.
Bobby Flay has a love other than cooking
World renown celebrity chef, Bobby Flay, is a proud father of three. However, only one of his children, Sophie Flay, is human. The other two are Flays Main Coon cats, Nacho and Stella.
Flay, an only child, previously told CBS News his childhood cats were the closest thing he had to real brothers. That love carried over into adulthood. When he grew old enough to move out, he went 30 years without a cat to love.
“I missed them when I was away, and I cherished the moment of opening the front door when they would all gather to welcome me home,” he said.
The chef took the plunge and bought his first cat in many years, Nacho Flay.
“What I was really nervous about was handling the responsibility of taking care of a new kitten — and making a 15-20 year commitment to a living, breathing creature. Well, I’m back in,” he said.
When we say no one loves cats as much as Flay, we mean it. His New York City restaurant, Gato, is the Spanish word for “cat.”
Here’s what Flay wants fans to do
Calling all fellow cat fans: Flay recently posted a photo of he and Nacho to his Instagram account. While Flay takes the shot, Nachi happily sits atop the chef’s shoulders.
“Have you tried the #NachoFlayChallenge? Everybody is doing it… (see @nachoflay’s Instastories for proof!)” he captioned the photo.
The challenge, as Flay suggests, it to snap a picture of a cat in the same position, post the photo, and tag both Flay and the challenge. Flay shares the entries in his and Nacho’s Instagram Story.
While it’s all in good fun for cat lovers around the globe, there’s one celebrity chef and close friend to Flay who’s calling him out in the most Mean Girls way possible.
“Stop tryin to make fetch happen, Bobby,” Sunny Anderson said in the comments.
Others weighed in, saying Anderson — who’s known for her undying love of all things Flay — made them laugh “way too loud.”
“Too funny,” one person said. “I died just there,” another added. “Don’t ever stop Sunny! So dang funny,” another adoring fan added.
Flay has two Main Coon cats but only one has an Instagram account
Main Coon cats are the largest domesticated cat breed in the world. Some can grow to weigh as much as 25 pounds. CBS News added that the cost of feeding and caring for one of these breeds can lean upwards of $980. The cost of the actual cat is in the thousands of dollars range.
That said, The #NachoFlayChallenge puts the spotlight on Flay’s first Main Coon. But, the chef also has another and her name is Stella, who Flay bought in March 2019.
Stella doesn’t have her own Instagram account — yet — so in the meantime, follow Nacho’s shenanigans, get in on the challenge, or just enjoy all the feline aesthetics by checking out Nacho’s page.
