Prince William Does This to Calm Down When He’s Nervous, According to a Body Language Expert
Prince William is one of the members of the royal family who seems to always keep his cool and composure even when he’s in a situation that makes him nervous. Like the rest of us, the Duke of Cambridge can get nervous from time to time as well. And now, a body language expert is revealing what the future king does to calm down when that happens.
The ‘soothing’ mechanism Prince William uses
Blanca Cobb is a body language expert who shares her expertise on non-verbal communication displayed among members of the royal family. Someone who she has studied more than once is Prince William. She picked up on what the future king does when he’s a little uncomfortable.
Cobb first noticed it in William and Kate’s joint interview following the announcement of their engagement.
“In this video, William is a little nervous. If you watch his hands, he’s rubbing his fingers. And when one part of your body rubs another part of your body, you’re soothing yourself. You’re calming yourself,” she explained (per Express).
William is seen doing what Cobb pointed out from the moment the video begins.
She continued: “It’s like when we were little, and we fell down and got hurt, Mommy would say, ‘Oh honey, that’s OK, let Mommy kiss it or let Mommy rub it and it’ll go away.’ It’s that same kind of action but as we grow up, it evolves over time. Mom’s not coming up to us kissing our booboo but what we’ve done is we adapted that sensation. So that way we will do it to ourselves to help calm us down. And it shows in different ways.”
Harry and Meghan seemed less nervous during their engagement interview
Cobb also compared how Will and Kate interacted in that video to how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle acted toward one another in their post-engagement interview. Cobb pointed out the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared more relaxed with each other than the Cambridges did.
She said: “Kate, she’s looking towards [William’s] direction, but initially she wasn’t looking at him. It’s not that there’s a physical distance in between the two of them, it’s just more formal than it was with Harry and Meghan. It could be the formality where they just may not feel as comfortable showing affection in public, where Harry and Meghan it’s different for them. They’re looking at each other. They’re smiling, but I would just say that with Meghan and Harry, it’s much more evident.”
Many royal fans also noticed how calm and confident Meghan was in her interview compared to the Duchess of Cambridge. Some believe the reason is likely due to Meghan’s background as a TV actor and just how comfortable she is in front of the camera. While for Kate, her interview with William was the first time many people ever heard her speak.
