Did Brad Pitt Forget About His First Daughter, Zahara?
The Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorce situation took a surprising turn when it was revealed Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh, rejected his last name. Pitt was reportedly devastated by his daughter’s decision. But his alleged feelings on the matter have made some wonder if he’s overlooked another daughter of his.
Why people are upset with Brad Pitt
After turning 18, Shiloh almost immediately used her freedoms as a young adult to scrub Pitt’s name off of her for her birthday. A specific reason for the name change hasn’t been given, but it hints at Shiloh’s true feelings at that moment.
A source recently told People that Pitt was saddened by his daughter distancing herself from him.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,” the source said. “The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
But the wording of the alleged source’s comments rubbed a few fans the wrong way. Some believe it shows that Pitt has completely forgotten about his actual first daughter Zahara. Jolie adopted Zahara in 2005, and was the second child she took in after Maddox.
Pitt and Jolie were already dating by the time Jolie was in the process of adopting Zahara. Because of this, the feeling is that the remark “he always wanted a daughter” was said in bad taste.
One reddit user wondered if Pitt even loved his adopted kids at all afterwards.
“That is so cruel, glad that she also dropped his name. He clearly does not care for his adopted children at all,” the comment read.
“It says so much that I, a complete and total stranger, knew that he already had a daughter before Shiloh before he did,” another poster added.
Interestingly enough, it was recently suggested that Zahara might’ve dropped Pitt’s name as well. Zahara’s last name was originally Zahara Jolie-Pitt. But according to Us Weekly, she’s recently started going by simply Zahara Marley Jolie.
What has Brad Pitt said about his adopted kids?
Pitt and Jolie have six children, three of which are adopted in Maddox, Zahara, and Pax. Jolie initially didn’t feel right having biological children. But she was persuaded to after being with Pitt, and eventually gave birth to Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne.
“Before I met Brad, I always said I was happy never to have a child biologically. He told me he hadn’t given up that thought. Then, a few months after Z came home, I saw Brad with her and Mad, and I realized how much he loved them, that a biological child would not in any way be a threat. So I said, ‘I want to try,'” she once told Reader’s Digest.
In a 2007 interview with Larry King, after Shiloh was born, Pitt asserted that he adored all of his children equally.
“They are as much my blood as I am theirs. And they are brothers and sisters,” he said. “And I look at this, it’s — one of them came from Ethiopia and one from Vietnam and one from Cambodia and one was born in Namibia. And they are — they are brothers and sisters. And they have fun. And they squabble and they fight, just like any other family.”
Pitt also briefly talked about Zahara specifically to King, calling her a delight.
“She — I just can’t see life without her,” he said.
Why Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorced
Both Jolie and Pitt have been mum about any specific reason for their split. But a lot of their tension can be traced back to a 2016 plane incident where the pair got into a heated fight. Entertainment Weekly reported that Jolie described Pitt as being verbally and physically abusive during the argument. According to documents obtained by the publication, Pitt was accusing Jolie of ruining their family.
It was also noted that another source felt the incident was being overblown.
“There was a parent-child argument which was not handled in the right way and escalated more than it should have,” the source claimed. “[But] it did not reach the level of physical abuse. [Pitt] did not hit his child in the face in any way. … He put his hands on him, yes, because the confrontation was spiraling out of control.”
Whatever the case, Shiloh dropping her name suggests that she’s taken a firm side on Jolie’s and Pitt’s ongoing battle. And perhaps so has Zahara.
