Brad Pitt Isn’t Angelina Jolie’s Only Ex Husband – She Has Two Others, and They’re Both Actors
Academy-award winning actress Angelina Jolie is known for her acting chops, directing skills, and humanitarian work, as well as being the mother of six kids. Making headlines over the past few years due to her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt, some may not remember that Jolie has walked down the aisle twice before, and those exes are also in showbiz.
Her split with Pitt
‘Brangelina’ was the Hollywood couple for quite some time. The two met on the set of their film Mr. and Mrs. Smith while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. They quickly developed a romance, and Pitt and Aniston separated in 2005, the same year as the release of the movie. The couple married in 2014, and share a total of six children – three of whom are adopted.
Their uncoupling in 2016 was covered by all big-name media outlets, where there were rumors of Pitt being kept from seeing his children as well as custody issues. The two now seem to have reached an amicable status, with Pitt recently sharing that he has committed himself to sobriety. “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges,” he told The New York Times. revealing that he spent a year and a half in Alcoholics Anonymous after Jolie filed for divorce.
He should’ve told Laura Dern …
Jolie met actor Billy Bob Thornton on the 1999 film Pushing Tin, where they portrayed husband and wife. Apparently, they wanted life to imitate art, and the two married in May 2000 in Las Vegas, despite the fact that Thornton was engaged to actress Laura Dern at the time. Dern clearly had no clue Thornton was even seeing anyone else. “I left our home to work on a movie, and while I was away, my boyfriend got married, and I’ve never heard from him again,” she said of Thornton, according to InStyle.
Aspects of Jolie and Thornton’s relationship became media fodder, with odd details such as wearing vials of each others’ blood around their neck, giving each other his-and-her grave plots, as well as a 20-year age difference, as reported by the Huffington Post.
The two split in 2003 and remain friends. “I remember our time together as really being great,” Thornton said. “We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle. So, that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together ― maybe ― because of a different path in life we wanted to take.”
Before he was Sherlock
Jolie’s first marriage took place in 1996 after meeting actor Jonny Lee Miller, now known for his role as Sherlock Holmes on CBS’ Elementary. The two were both unknown in the acting world when they met working on the movie Hackers in 1995, though Miller would soon gain notoriety for his role in Trainspotting the following year, and Jolie would eventually attain superstar status.
According to Heavy, the two married in a small civil ceremony. In lieu of a white wedding dress, Jolie opted to wear rubber pants and a white T-shirt with the groom’s name written on the back of the shirt in her own blood. Maybe that’s where she got the idea for the vials with Thornton…
The pair called it quits in 1999, yet parted friends. “There are no regrets and no bitterness,” Miller said. “Marriage was something that didn’t work out, and I had to make the decision sooner or later. I decided to make it sooner.”
Jolie also speaks fondly of her first ex, and of the film that brought them together. “That’s where I met Jonny, who is still a great friend,” she said. “I think of him when I think of that. Although, I’m sure the movie looks so ancient now, but we had a lot of fun making that.”
Fans of Jolie are sure to see her upcoming film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil when it hits theaters on October 18!
