Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston have each come a long way since the messy end of their marriage took over tabloids for months on end. Even though the pair have gone their separate ways, many fans still longingly look on their friendship with hopes of a reunion — or at least a happy tale of sincere friendship. The two actors were both in attendance at the 2020 Golden Globes, and this public reunion was an opportunity for fans to peek in on the current status of their complex relationship.

In November of 1999, not long after their first public appearance, they got engaged. They announced the impending nuptials on stage at a Sting concert.
In July of the next year, they were married in Malibu. There were literally fireworks, a fitting symbol for this hot and heavy relationship that had fans applauding the newlyweds.
The public was obsessed with the relationship, and they were particularly eager to see the pair have kids. It seemed like Aniston’s picture was gracing the cover of a different magazine every week.
Often, the headlines would scrutinize her appearance for a potential baby bump, but it was not to be. The pair never did have children together, and the constant public pressure had to be a strain on their marriage.

Their brief reunion at the Golden Globes seems to support that interpretation. When Pitt was asked about the potential of seeing Aniston at the event, he responded in a way that highlighted they’re nothing more than just friends. He said: “I’ll run into Jen, she’s a good friend. Yeah.”
He went on to make a joke: “The second most important reunion of her year? I understand.” He was referencing the fact that Aniston was also slated to reunite with some of her Friends costars.
Later, Pitt told another joke on stage as he accepted an award for his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He remarked: “I wanted to bring my mom but I couldn’t, because anyone I stand next to, they say I’m dating. And that would just be awkward.”
The camera cut to a laughing Aniston in the audience, and fans enjoyed seeing the pair supportive of one another.
Pitt has indeed been spending time with Aniston. He attended her 50th birthday party and her Christmas tree-trimming celebration. However, there is no clear sign that the pair have done anything more than grow past their troubled history to find some common ground in a meaningful friendship.
