Bravo Finally Announces ‘RHOP’ Release Date as Andy Cohen Explains Why the ‘Housewives’ Are Taking a 2 Week Break
After a significant delay, The Real Housewives of Potomac returns to Bravo on Sunday, August 2 at 9/8c.
The network originally planned to release season 5 in the spring, but shelved the series, only telling viewers it would launch in “late summer.” The network moved its other longstanding series Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles from a May release date to June 16.
Although The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Real Housewives of New York City launched, both series went on break leaving viewers without fresh programming.
Below Deck Mediterranean premiered on the typical launch date. But now the network announced the season needed to be re-edited after a cast member was fired for a racist post. The cast member will now be minimized for the remainder of the season. No word on whether or not new episodes will be delayed due to new edits.
There’s a new ‘Housewife’ in Potomac
Season 5 includes the return of Gizelle Bryant, Karen Huger, Ashley Darby, Robyn Dixon, Monique Samuels, and Candiace Dillard Bassett. Joining the cast this season is newcomer Wendy Osefo, “with brains and sass, and she’s making sure the ladies put some respect on her name,” according to Bravo.
The series will catch up with newlyweds, Candiace Dillard and Chris Bassett. As the couple celebrates one year of marriage, they contemplate having a baby. But first, Bassett has to confront her issues with Ashley Darby and mounting conflicts with Monique Samuels.
Darby deals with her own issues in her marriage. Despite creating a happy home for her newborn son, she learns husband Michael is harboring a secret. Samuels ends up discovering that a girl’s night out gets out of hand that has an impact on the entire cast.
Robyn Dixon is still hoping to make it official with Juan. While Gizelle Bryant rekindles her relationship with her ex-husband, Jamal Bryant, will their daughters accept the reconciliation? As for Karen Huger, she finds that Ray’s feelings may not be the same for her after decades of marriage.
Bravo viewers will have to wait for new ‘Housewives’ episodes
Viewers will have to wait until the second week in July for new episodes of RHOBH. Viewers wonder why both series were being held and Garcelle Beauvais from RHOBH and executive producer Andy Cohen explained why.
Beauvais tweeted, “It’s just a hiatus because of COVID they need time to edit! We will be back in 2 weeks.” She and Dorit Kemsley have been watching the series from their homes and commenting via video on previous episodes.
Cohen retweeted Beauvais tweet. Adding, “Taking a teeny hiatus due to Covid. Takes longer to edit the show now, but it’ll be worth the wait….” While RHOBH won’t return until July 8, a new episode of RHONY is scheduled to air on June 25. Series hiatus arrived during one of the biggest shakeups at the network. Four cast members were fired from Vanderpump Rules for racist actions as the season 8 reunion aired. The series return is still uncertain as the season and reunion were the lowest-rated for the series.
