Bravo stars Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd have been married for 40 years, so it seems like they’ve done something right in their union. But the former star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills once revealed that she wasn’t even sure she loved Todd until they were already on their honeymoon.

What did she say about becoming certain of her love for her husband – but not until after he was already her husband? And when did Todd say he fell in love with her?

Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd married within months of meeting

One important thing to remember before diving into this story is that Vanderpump and Todd had a whirlwind start to their romance. They met in London in 1981 and were engaged six weeks later. Three months into the engagement, they wed. And – by all appearances – their marriage has remained strong since.

They raised two children and share lots of dogs. They also seem to be passionate about helping at-risk canines around the world. On top of sharing so much in their personal lives, they run many successful businesses and work together executive producing Vanderpump Rules for Bravo.

And they look to be in love. As a romantic gesture, Todd hung a flower-adorned swing for Vanderpump that is well-known to some RHOBH viewers. Once it was up, he also stepped up to give his apparently delighted wife a playful push.

So, knowing all that, it might be a little surprising for some fans to hear that Vanderpump said she wasn’t sure about her love for Todd until they were already on their honeymoon.

Lisa Vanderpump: ‘I think I was so desperate to marry somebody, then you came along’

During a 2016 interview with each other for The Insider, Todd asked Vanderpump when she knew she loved him. “I think it was after we got married,” she replied. Some people might wonder why she would marry him before she knew, and she explained. “Because I think I was so desperate to marry someone and then you came along,” she told him.

Of course, she did say that she eventually knew her love for Todd was real. She clarified, “A couple of weeks into our honeymoon I thought — I quite like this guy.”

In response to her answer, Todd asked, “After that massive ring I gave you?” He also chuckled when she referred to the same ring as a “pinprick.”

But Vanderpump then turned Todd’s question back to him and asked when he knew he loved her. “Um, about ten seconds after I met you,” he responded — to an “oh, please” from his wife. However, he continued, “You were like a breath of fresh air in my life. You make everything so wonderful.”

At that point, Vanderpump seemed touched but asked why it took him so long to tell her that. He told her she’d never asked.

To end the interview, Todd asked Vanderpump a question she seemed to have a hard time believing. “Do you still love me?” he inquired. She didn’t think he’d really written it down to ask her, but he assured her it was there.

“I did before this interview,” she joked after he showed her his question card. But it seems like she still has some love for him despite the jesting. She retweeted a fan video made for the couple by a Twitter admirer on their 40th wedding anniversary.

So, maybe she wasn’t quite sure how much she loved him until after they were married — but it seems like she’s quite sure enough now.
