Bravo’s ‘Camp Getaway’: Will There Be a Season 2?
As Bravo’s Camp Getaway wraps for season 1, does the new series have a chance at seeing a second season?
Like most freshman series, the show about camp staffers who work at a camp for adults had only eight episodes. Camp Getaway was a highly anticipated series. The series debuted in early May as many people were still locked down due to the pandemic.
Also, a number of shows were put on hold as networks scrambled to space out previously shot series. Bravo delayed The Real Housewives of Potomac and Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. Also, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills went on hiatus mid-season.
But despite the initial fanfare did viewers stick around and become invested in Camp Getaway? Plus, could the series, which shoots in the summer, be shot this summer?
Ratings buzzed around 300,000 and then rose slightly
The season began with promise. “S01E01 – 0.424 million viewers (0.17 18-49),” Bravo Ratings shared about the series premiere. A few people responded that they didn’t realize the show existed or was on. Others, who tuned in were concerned about the timeslot. Camp Getaway aired at 10 pm EST after Below Deck Sailing Yacht on Monday.
“I’m my opinion it comes out at a later time which does harm the show! @bravotv should pick a different date to play this show!! It’s such a good show I enjoyed the episode,” one person observed.
After the first episode, the series generally hovered in the 300,000 range, dropping slightly for the third episode. The series began to see a ratings increase when Camp Getaway followed Below Deck Mediterranean. Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s first season ended and Below Deck Med took over the timeslot. While Camp Getaway didn’t crack the 400,000 mark, each episode experienced an uptick. “S01E07 – 0.377 million viewers (0.14 18-49),” according to Bravo Ratings.
Freshman series Family Karma also only had eight episodes. The series ended closer to the one million viewer mark. “S01E08 – 0.712 million viewers (0.20 18-49 demo),” according to Bravo Ratings. Production has not announced if Family Karma will return.
Could they film this summer?
Aside from ratings, is it even feasible to shoot Camp Getaway this summer? Bravo’s Summer House finally announced they will shoot this summer. However, the cast (and possibly the crew) aren’t sure what the show will look like since the pandemic continues to be problematic. The show will shoot in the space of one month, seven days a week. How the cast will throw parties is still in question.
Camp Getaway, which is an actual camp called Club Getaway, is actually open for business this season. Camp owner and director, David Schreiber told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in April he wasn’t sure if camp would resume but was hopeful. “My hope is we can open up in June,” he said. He insisted that he would not open unless he was sure camp would be safe for everyone. “But we will be open this season, I think it’ll be a different type of season.”
According to the Club Getaway website, the July 4th weekend will be the first opportunity for adult campers to return. This would likely open the door for a production crew to tag along too … if the series is picked up for another season.
Camp Getaway season finale airs tonight at 10 pm EST on Bravo.
