Is ‘Bridgerton’ Actor Phoebe Dynevor Leaving the Show Too? She Has a New Gig

Just months after 'Bridgerton' lost Regé-Jean Paul, fans are starting to wonder if another actor is on their way out of the door. Phoebe Dynevor, who plays the wife of Paul's Simon, has been tapped to executive produce and star in a new series, raising questions about her future on 'Bridgerton.' Is she leaving too?

Phoebe Dynevor became a household name after starring on Netflix’s Bridgerton. Fans love her for her role as Daphne, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family and the wife of Regé-Jean Paul’s Simon Bassett. But after the news of Dynevor’s casting in Amazon’s Exciting Times, some are wondering about her future on the series.

What we know about Phoebe Dynevor’s new show

Deadline reported on Tuesday, Aug. 17, that Dynevor will executive produce and act in Exciting Times, an upcoming romance series. Adapted from a book of the same name by Irish writer Naoise Dolan, Exciting Times follows the life of a woman named Ava. Ava is “an Irish transplant abroad teaching English grammar to wealthy children, who becomes entangled in a love triangle with banker Julian and lawyer Edith.”

What does that mean for Phoebe Dynevor’s future on ‘Bridgerton’ then?

As Deadline notes, it’s unclear if Dynevor will continue on Bridgerton past the upcoming second season, but given the amount of time and energy she’ll have to dedicate to Exciting Times, there’s some speculation she won’t. Showbiz Cheat Sheet reached out to representatives for Dynevor for comment on the matter but did not hear back by the time of publication.

This is all comes months after it was reported that Page would not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings. The show made the announcement on its Twitter page, sharing the news in the form of a letter from Lady Whistledown.

“Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton‘s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” the statement read. “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear. Yours truly, Lady Whistledown.”

Page acknowledged the statement on his Twitter page, writing, “Pleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family – on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans – the love is real and will just keep growing.”

Daphne will take things ‘to the next level’ in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2

Although Daphne won’t be front and center in the next season of Bridgerton, Dynevor promises fans will see more exciting things from her.

“Next season, [I’m] taking it to the next level and am able to play her as this sort of empowered adult that has a child now and knows what it means to be a woman and a wife,” she teased in an interview with W Magazine. “It’s fun getting to play her in a very different way. She really knows herself at this point. So to explore what it means for her to have all those things that she longed for in the first season, it’s really a joy.”

There’s no release date for Bridgerton Season 2 just yet, but the show is now filming.
