Bridgerton racked up nominations in 12 categories, including for outstanding drama (where it’s up against heavyweights such as The Handmaid’s Tale and The Crown). Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, is also nominated in the lead actor category.

‘Bridgerton’ star Rege-Jean Page reacted to his Emmy nomination

Regé-Jean Page Is Leaving ‘Bridgerton’, but You Can Still Get Him on Your Screen

Page is Bridgerton’s breakout star, though he won’t be returning for the show’s second season, which will focus on a different set of characters than season 1. Still, he expressed delight at his nomination.  

“It’s a joy to be seen,” Page wrote on Instagram. “12 @televisionacad Emmy nominations for the dazzling group of artists @bridgertonnetflix.” In his post, Page also gave a shout-out to Sylvie’s Love, in which he also appears and which is nominated in the Outstanding Television Movie category.

“And 1 happy, tired boy who gets to be a part of it all,” the British actor added.  

Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen also expressed excitement over the show’s many nominations. 

“I don’t think Lady Whistledown herself would have the right words to really express the amazingness of this moment,” he told EW. “It’s huge. It’s big for us and we’re all just beside ourselves in excitement.”

Van Dusen also said he was “so happy” for Page’s nomination. “He is our duke and he will always be our duke,” he said. “I hope I’m fortunate to work with him again.”

The Netflix series has already won one Emmy 

The winners of this year’s acting and best series Emmys won’t be revealed until Sunday night. However, we already know who’s taken home trophies in a number of categories. 

The Creative Arts Emmys took place the weekend of September 11, with awards handed out in categories such as cinematography, costumes, hairstyling and makeup, music, and sound design. Bridgerton won one Emmy at that ceremony, for Outstanding Period And/Or Character Hairstyling. However, it lost in other categories, including costumes and production design, where the trophies when to fellow Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit. The winners in the outstanding drama series and outstanding lead actor (drama) categories, as well as outstanding directing (drama), will be announced at Sunday’s Emmy ceremony. 

The 2021 Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 19 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
