The ‘Bridgerton’ Intimacy Coordinator Thinks This Choice Helped Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor’s Chemistry
Even since Bridgerton premiered on Netflix on Dec. 25, 2020, fans of the show have been enthralled with the chemistry between Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor. Page stars as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, and Dynevor stars as Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family.
Bridgerton follows the characters throughout the social season in Regency London. The show became known for the chemistry Simon and Daphne have and the characters’ steamy romantic scenes. In an interview with Access Hollywood, the intimacy coordinator on Bridgerton, Lizzy Talbot, revealed what helped Dynevor and Page’s chemistry.
What is an intimacy coordinator?
On Jan. 12, Access Hollywood published an interview with Talbot. At the start of the interview, Talbot was asked to explain what an intimacy coordinator does to help actors.
“So an intimacy coordinator is someone who works with the actors and the crew in the production to ensure the safety and respect of the actor when they’re working with simulated sex or nudity,” Talbot said.
To make sure the intimate scenes in Bridgerton were as safe and realistic as possible, Talbot worked with the actors weeks before filming actually began.
“We were really lucky in that we had so much rehearsal time. Shondaland were incredibly gracious with that,” Talbot said on Access Hollywood. “It’s not always the case, but we were really lucky to have all of that rehearsal time.”
This choice helped the chemistry on ‘Bridgerton’
Because of the profound chemistry between Simon and Daphne as characters, Talbot was asked about the chemistry between Page and Dynevor. Talbot explained that because Page and Dynevor were also working with a dance choreographer, their chemistry was able to build.
“So there was obviously such a like a lovely, friendly connection between them when I first started, because I don’t think they’d actually been doing a huge amount of work together before I got involved,” she said. “Something that was really handy was that they were also working with the dance choreography, Jack Murphy, at the same time.”
She continued, “And of course, there’s so much connection when you’re working with any of the ball scenes, if you’re doing any of those dances. You have to find that connection, and I know they had a lot of fun doing that.”
Regé-Jean Page denied that ‘Bridgerton’ cast members are dating
Access Daily published an interview with Page and Dynevor on Jan. 9. When asked about the chemistry between the actors, Page denied that any of the actors were romantically-linked in real life.
“I think that everything you need to know is on camera,” he said. “That’s why we presented it so beautifully for you. And all the sparks that flew came off of the beautiful scripts that we were handed.”
One thing that Dynevor found particularly special about Bridgerton was the agency women were allowed on the show.
“I knew that the women were gonna have real agency,” she said on Access Daily. “They were not gonna be, you know, timid women that we’d seen before, sometimes in previous Regency dramas, so that was the thing that really excited me.”
