Sometimes actors lie to get roles. It’s been known to happen during the casting process for TV shows and movies. One of the latest examples is Bridgerton, Netflix’s newest hit series. One of its stars, Phoebe Dynevor, admits she wasn’t exactly honest during her audition for the part of Daphne Bridgerton.

Daphne Bridgerton is the focus of ‘Bridgerton’ Season 1

When Bridgerton debuted on Dec. 25, 2020, viewers met a shy, young, and inexperienced Daphne. One of eight Bridgerton children, she entered London society in the Regency era.

Not so sure about the process of finding a husband, Daphne teamed up with Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) for a fake courtship. She wanted to appear more desirable to potential suitors while Simon wanted to avoid marriage.

Over the course of eight episodes, they fell for each other. Daphne went from being someone who didn’t know much about sex or relationships to a young woman in a steamy romance with Simon.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Bridgerton family — and the Featherington family too — navigated their lives while Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) spilled the juicy details in her scandalous pamphlets.

Phoebe Dynevor lied about horses during her ‘Bridgerton’ audition

Dynevor told Glamour in a January 2021 interview she began the series not liking horses. She admitted she even lied during her audition about her experience riding horses.

“And I’ve always said—I don’t know why—that I didn’t like horses and was scared of them,” she told the publication in January 2021. “But in the audition when they asked me, ‘Have you ridden a horse before?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m amazing. I’ve ridden so many horses. I’d be perfect for this role!’

The 25-year-old actor now feels differently about horses after filming Bridgerton Season 1. Dynevor actually enjoyed all the scenes with horseback riding and she’s looking forward to doing it again.

“I actually loved horseback riding by the end of it and would love to get back on a horse as soon as possible, so that was fun,” she said before adding, “I felt very much ready to enter the marriage market by the time I finished with everything.”

Netflix has renewed ‘Bridgerton’ for another season

It looks like Dynevor will get another chance to play Daphne and ride horses on Bridgerton. Netflix greenlighted Bridgerton Season 2 on Jan. 21, 2021. Production is slated to begin in the spring of 2021.

The decision to make more episodes of the period drama comes as no surprise to fans. Millions of households around the world have watched Bridgerton since it premiered.

As for hints about the show’s direction, the Bridgerton cast knows nothing. But chances are season 2 will focus on Daphne’s older brother, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). If the show continues to follow the structure of Julia Quinn’s books as it did in the first eight episodes, then The Viscount Who Loved Me will be next.
