Based on the novel series by Julia Quinn, each book centers around the life and romance of the Bridgerton children. The first season followed the eldest daughter’s romance story, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor).

Now, the second season shifts to the eldest son, Anthony Bridgerton. After a devastating heartbreak, Anthony wants to find a wife. Bridgerton Season 2 is based on the second book in the series, titled The Viscount Who Loved M.

In a set of first look photos, it’s revealed that Anthony will fall for Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), a member of the Sharma Family. Anthony is engaged to Kate’s sister, Edwina Sharma. But, sparks fly between him and Kate, causing a forbidden romance to brew.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen talked about the pressure of following up on the first season’s success, being that it was such a Netflix hit.

“It is a little different going [into it than] that first season now that it’s kind of a worldwide phenomenon,” he said. “There are a lot more eyes and a lot more scrutiny, but I’ve always said this show comes with a healthy kind of pressure. Being inspired by these eight delicious romance novels, which already have a passionate fan following, the pressure is really baked in.”

Nicola Coughlan teases the second season will be a ‘whole lot spicer’

We find out at the end of season 1 [that she’s Lady Whistledown], that is there, but we don’t get to explore it,” Coughlan shared. “But the world cracks open. I feel like the Bridgerton world has grown, and you’re going to see a lot more sides to her. She’s a sassy chick.”
