TL;DR:

  • Bridgerton Season 2 jumps season 1 as the most popular Netflix season ever for an English language series
  • In its first 28 days, fans have watched more than 627 million hours of Bridgerton Season 2
  • Squid Game remains the most popular Netflix season ever

Bridgerton Season 2 is breaking Netflix records. The new season of the Netflix series premiered on March 25, 2022. In only 25 days since its release, fans watched 627.11 million hours of Bridgerton Season 2.

Prior to the premiere of Bridgerton Season 2, the first season of the Netflix series topped the list of the most popular English language Netflix originals. In its first 28 days, fans watched more than 625 million hours of the first season, according to the Netflix Top 10 list.

It only took 25 days for the second season to jump the first season and become the biggest Netflix opening of all time for an English language series.

According to Netflix, this is the first time ever the same show holds the top two spots on the list of the all-time Netflix Top 10.

This should come as no surprise for fans of the hit series. Bridgerton has been a mainstay on the Netflix Top 10 list since its premiere. It’s fallen out of the No.1 spot a couple of times with the rise of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, but fans should expect the series to be on the Netflix Top 10 for a while.

‘Squid Game’ is still the biggest Netflix show ever

While Bridgerton Season 1 and Season 2 are wildly popular, Squid Game remains the most popular Netflix show of all time. It’s not particularly close either.

Fans watched more than 600 million hours of Bridgerton Season 1 and Season 2, each, in their first 28 days. There are still a few days left for Bridgerton Season 2 to get a little closer to 700 million hours watched, but it won’t come close to Squid Game‘s success in its first 28 days after release.

Squid Game premiered on Netflix on Sept. 17, 2021. In its first 28 days on Netflix, fans watched more than 1.6 billion hours of the series, according to the non-English Netflix Top 10. Yes, fans watched 1 billion more hours of Squid Game than they did of Bridgerton Season 2. It’s truly incredible.

Will we ever see a show as big as Squid Game on Netflix again? Well, Squid Game Season 2 is in the works. Hopefully, season 2 is coming in 2024. Luckily, we’ll probably see at least two seasons of Bridgerton by then.

Three more seasons of Bridgerton, at least, are in the works at Netflix right now. Netflix renewed Bridgerton for season 3 and season 4 in 2021. Netflix also just announced the cast for the upcoming Queen Charlotte spinoff.

Shonda Rhimes and other creatives associated with the production have mentioned the initial plan was to bring all eight of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books to life on Netflix. The streaming network has not ordered that many seasons yet. Based on the popularity and quality of the series, it’s hard to see why Netflix would bail on this series right now.

If all goes according to the plan, Bridgerton Season 3 and other future seasons will likely see themselves land on the Netflix Top 10 after they are released. There’s no reason to think this show will become less popular in the short term.
