‘Bridgerton’ Season 3: Will Eloise and Penelope Make Up? Nicola Coughlan Says ‘They Have To’
Bridgerton ended with two friends going their separate ways. But will Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) get through this? The actors had a lot to say about season 2’s ending.
[Warning: This article contains spoilers for the finale of Bridgerton Season 2.]
Eloise and Penelope’s friendship might be over on ‘Bridgerton’
Eloise and Penelope have very different experiences but are best friends. In season 1, Eloise was impressed by Lady Whistledown. She was also determined to find who she was but was unsuccessful. The season ended, revealing to the audience that Penelope was the popular writer.
Season 2 ended with Eloise realizing Penelope’s secret. She confronts her, and Penelope is apologetic. But Eloise says she wants nothing to do with her in the future. Fans are now left to wonder if Eloise will keep the secret to herself and if Eloise will ever be able to forgive her.
Nicola Coughlan says Eloise and Penelope have to make up
Some fans were heartbroken by Eloise and Penelope’s big argument. It wasn’t any easier on Coughlan, who thinks they need to be friends again.
“They have to [reconcile],” she told Entertainment Tonight. “They have to, because it would break my heart [if they didn’t]. Also, I think, in deep life-long friendships, there are moments like that when you do fight and you’ve just got to learn to grow a little bit. But I think Penelope has got some apologizing to do. I think she has some apologizing to do.”
Jessie also described their last scene as “incredibly intense.” She was understanding of Penelope’s betrayal.
“But I get it, like Penelope doesn’t have the same sort of warm tight friendly domestic setting that always comes from an incredibly close, loving family,” Jessie said. “Penelope has quite a hard time and, obviously, it would be very difficult for her to tell me… I get why it would be hard. It’s the light lies [that] snowball… so I think that’s what’s happening. It’s just going out of control, so I love that scene so much. I love it.”
Fans take sides after the fight
Fans are sharing their reactions to Eloise finding out the truth. It looks like they’re torn on who is more wrong on Reddit.
“I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am for Pen this season,” one fan wrote. “She was so right about Eloise! Though both of them has to mature past this whistledown thing, Pen did what she had to in order to save Eloise.”
“I have to disagree with your point that Pen did what she had to in order to save Eloise,” another person replied. “She could’ve written a piece praising the Queen, which would’ve gotten the queen off of Eloise’s back. She betrayed her best friend.”
“I honestly think Penelope went too far in the last few episodes,” a third fan commented. “She could have stopped at anytime and done things a different way.”
Hopefully, fans will soon see how the former friends will reunite. But for now, Eloise doesn’t seem forgiving.
