‘Bridgerton’ Season 3: New Showrunner Reaffirms Benedict’s Story Will Be a ‘Vital Part’
News of Bridgerton Season 3 focusing on Penelope and Colin means fans will not get to see Benedict’s story just yet. Benedict is the second eldest male in the family, and his story was slightly teased in Bridgerton Season 2. But the Netflix series has a habit of sprinkling characters’ future storylines in each season. Bridgerton’s Season 3 showrunner lets fans know Benedict’s story will appear.
Benedict tries to find himself in the new season but has a long way to go
All eyes were on Kate and Anthony’s steaming romance in Bridgerton Season 2. While their story became a fan favorite that ended in marriage, Benedict also stole the spotlight. He decides to venture on his own path for the season and continues his love for art.
While hesitant to do so, Benedict is fully supported by his siblings and gets into a prestigious art institute. But along the way, Benedict does not feel at peace as he thought he would. Even more so when he learns that Anthony’s large donation was what likely got him admitted. Benedict starts to feel as if his artistic talent is not enough.
Fans see a small fling between Benedict and one of the models at the school. But it does not develop into a relationship, and fans are aware she is not the woman Benedict ends up marrying. In the second season, Anthony made a comment that is theorized to lead to Benedict’s story.
At the beginning of the season, Anthony tells one of the house employees they need to find a new maid for his sister. While Bridgerton Season 3 will explore Colin realizing his feelings for Penelope, the new showrunner reveals Benedict still has a role to play.
‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 showrunner explains deviation from book order does not put Benedict in the corner
Benedict’s story was meant to occur after Anthony’s, according to the original book series timeline. Nicole Coughlan revealed her character, and Colin would instead take the limelight for the new season. After the second season, some fans felt the characters were not ready to be the focal point for the new installment.
New showrunner Jess Brownell explains to Variety, “I really feel like it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people.”
Brownell reassures fans will see all the characters and Benedict when discussing if the deviation in book order would change the storylines for future seasons. Bridgerton Season 3 will likely sprinkle in Benedict’s ongoing story to prepare for the fourth season.
“Well, we already differ from the books a little bit because we’re an ensemble show. The books really focus on one on one romantic pair at a time, and maybe the siblings have a little cameo here and there but they don’t have full stories. In that way, even though we’re reversing the order of the books, I think all the people you would expect to see — Benedict, who is book three, he will be a vital part of Season 3,” said Brownell.
Benedict finds love with a maid according to his book storyline
The fan will have to wait and see how Bridgerton Season 3 ties in Benedict to prepare him for his future romance. Seeing as Brownell confirms Benedict will have a vital role, it could mean fans see more of him than expected. A fan theory suggests Colin and Penelope might not get to the finish line by the end of the season.
The third season might introduce the new lady that Benedict starts to fall for. According to the synopsis of An Offer from a Gentleman, Sophie Beckett dreamed of attending Lady Bridgerton’s famous balls. Her stepmother forces her to serve as a servant, despite her title. Could it be the new maid Anthony mentioned to be Sophie?
The book has Sophie sneak into the ball and meet the handsome Benedict. It’s love at first sight, but Sophie returns to her life at midnight. Benedict vows to find the mystery woman who has taken over his mind but finds himself also attracted to the new housemaid, who looks familiar.
