‘Bridgerton’ Sex Scenes Are Being Posted Illegally on Explicit Websites and the Stars Are Not Happy
Netflix is caught in a battle with explicit sites after several of them have posted the sex scenes from Bridgerton. It is a situation that is making the two leads of the show, Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page, uncomfortable.
‘Bridgerton’ is one of Netflix’s most-viewed series
Bridgerton, the first show at Netflix from Shondaland, is created by Chris Van Dusen. The series follows Daphne Bridgerton (Dynevor), the oldest daughter in the Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Daphne She and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Page), come up with a scheme in order to be tied together on the market. However, they end up falling in love and everything changes.
The series also stars Golda Rosheuvel, Jonathan Bailey, Luke Newton, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Ruby Barker, Sabrina Bartlett, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh, Polly Walker, Bessie Carter and Harriet Cains and Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.
As Daphne and Simon navigate their arrangement-turned-romantic relationship, a key components of Bridgerton are the sex scenes between the two characters.
Scenes from ‘Bridgerton’ are popping up on explicit sites
As reported by The New York Post, “pirated sex scenes from the period piece have racked up hundreds of thousands of views on adult video-streaming platforms, leaving Netflix execs struggling to yank the unauthorized shared footage.’
According to UK publication The Sun, a lot of people are horrified and upset about the content making its way from Netflix to these explicit sites. “Bridgerton’s sex scenes appearing alongside some of the most obscene material the web has to offer has sparked horror and anger,” a source told The Sun. “Raunchy set pieces have contributed to the buzz but it is a prestige drama based on best-selling novels. To peddle scenes as pure smut is beyond the pale.”
Additionally, the publciation reports that the actors are upset about the scenes being posted on the sites. “It’s been particularly distressing for Phoebe and Regé-Jean, two young actors who signed on for the role of a lifetime and did not consent to being exploited in this way,” an insider told The Sun.
Netflix has had a lot of the scenes taken down from the sites after issuing warnings about “misuse of their intellectual property.”
‘Normal People’ also saw the same thing happen
Though Bridgerton is the most recent, it is the second major series over the last year that has been subject to having its sex scenes ripped from streaming services to be posted on explicit sites. The same thing happened with Hulu’s Normal People.
“We’re hugely disappointed that excerpts from the series of ‘Normal People’ have been used in this way,” said the show’s executive producer Ed Guiney to Variety at the time. “It’s both a violation of copyright and more importantly, it’s deeply disrespectful to the actors involved and to the wider creative team. We have taken appropriate steps to require that the content be removed from the platform with immediate effect.”
