Brie Larson, of Captain Marvel fame, may have a lot of Hollywood pals, but that wasn’t always the case. In fact, Larson reveals she didn’t have friends during her “weird childhood.” Though being a loner isn’t so bad, “weird” might be an understatement when it comes to the Marvel actor. It doesn’t get more bizarre than eating meals in the shower. Or does it?

Born in 1989 as Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers, Brie Larson admits to having an odd childhood. Her parents were chiropractors in Sacramento, California. But that’s not the bizarre part.

Larson told The Guardian she was into doing “weird stuff.” Her parents were both open and supportive, especially when a 6-year-old Larson told her mother she wanted to be an actor. But even that conversation was a bit strange.

Larson told her mother, “Mom, I know what my dharma is,” and laid out her path to becoming an actor. Grade-school kids typically don’t talk like that. But Larson said she had picked up the term from television. Her mother responded by signing the youngster up for acting classes.

The confessions of weirdness continued as Larson admitted to loving bizarre movies and wearing bowling shoes around the house as a kid. She even went through an oddball phase where she ate her dinner in the shower because, why not?

Shortly after Larson realized her “dharma,” her parents separated, and she moved to LA. By then, she’d had some acting experience, primarily as the Native American turkey hunter in her school play for Thanksgiving. But the move changed everything, including her surroundings, now just “a room” in a studio apartment her mother rented. According to Variety, Larson homeschooled for most of her childhood before graduating at age 15.

At 8 years old, a quirky Larson wasn’t watching cartoons. Her favorite films included Fried Green Tomatoes and Gone With the Wind. At 14, she released her first pop album, Finally Out of P.E.

Her eccentric tastes made connecting with people her age difficult. But what about now? Is Brie Larson still a loner as an adult?
