Brie Larson Is Going to Get a Lot of YouTube Hate, Fans Warn
Of all the ugly corners of the internet, YouTube comments are probably one of the ugliest. For whatever reason, the comments underneath YouTube videos seem to be particularly nasty compared to other social media platforms, even if the video in question isn’t about anything controversial.
People feel brave behind a screen, and it seems like they forget that the people featured in the videos they’re watching are human beings with real feelings.
Oscar-winning actor Brie Larson recently made the brave decision to start a YouTube channel. Given that she’s already a public figure, and people already have strong opinions about her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans became worried about the hate comments she’d start to receive on the platform – and it seems like they might have a point.
Brie Larson started a YouTube channel
Although Brie Larson has had a long-running career in Hollywood, she’s mostly recognized for playing Carol Danvers (a.k.a. Captain Marvel) in MCU movies like Avengers: End Game and Captain Marvel. She recently added another job to her long resume: YouTuber. She put up her first video a few days ago, announcing the decision on her social media platforms.
In the video, she explains why she decided to start a YouTube channel in the first place, especially considering that she’s already famous and certainly doesn’t need the cash.
“YouTube has been a place that I have learned so much. Whether it’s been, like, how to use my printer, or it’s been watching, like, how to be a considerate activist, this is like, the place to talk about things that are important and that matter,” she’s seen saying on her first foray into YouTube. “That doesn’t mean that there isn’t also silly content and ways to express myself personally, but there will also be deep conversation, anti-racist rhetoric, [and] inclusive content,” she adds.
Fans are worried Larson will get a lot of hate comments
We can understand the reasoning behind Larson’s decisions, but fans know how vicious the internet can be, and they expressed their concern over Larson exposing herself to mean YouTube comments on her socially conscious channel.
“Lord have mercy on her soul. Hope it doesn’t get toxic in a hurry and people see what a genuine and kind person she truly is,” one fan commented on Reddit. “[The] comments section is going to need one of those iron sarcophagi they put over Chernobyl,” someone else replied.
Apparently, though, the hate has already started flowing, and fans discussed the nasty comments that have been left on Larson’s first video. One fan expressed confusion at the amount of hate that is being directed at Larson for seemingly no reason: “I don’t get it, the vitriol seems excessive. You’d think she drowned a basketful of puppies on camera,” they said. We don’t get it either!
Fans are supportive and think Larson is a ‘natural’
Although she might get destroyed by haters, fans are still supportive of their favorite superhero’s decision and claim that she has natural talent for being a YouTuber. “Judging by the first few minutes, she’s already a natural,” one fan praised.
Another referred to a past gig that Larson did that might have given her a leg-up in the YouTube world: “Judging by that Kimmel hosting thing she did, she’ll be good at this,” they wrote.
Someone else gushed that although they do feel trepidation about the hate Larson might receive, they still admire that she started the channel.
“I legit have the feeling that whatever she does next on her channel will be something positive and cute and fun and super weird, and the sh** the haters will use for their clickbait videos will be coooompletely ignored by the general audience of YT. That’s how you end them,” they wrote.
We hope she does end them, once and for all.
