Britney Spears Makes Final Child Support Payment: How Much Was She Paying Each Month?
Britney Spears has spent more than two decades in the spotlight. During that time, fans watched her meteoric rise to fame as a teen icon. They followed her troubled marriage to Kevin Federline and subsequent mental health issues as they played out in the media. More recently, a conservatorship and her fractured familial relationships have been the focus of media attention. Behind the headlines, Spears was busy paying child support for the two children she shares with Federline. Now, she has officially made her final payment. So, exactly how much money did she spend on child support over the years? It’s not a tiny figure.
Britney Spears was ordered to pay child support following her 2007 divorce
Britney Spears’ legal monetary obligation to her two sons is over. Both boys are now over the age of 18, and Spears’ final child support payment has been sent off to Kevin Federline. According to Page Six, Jayden James Federline turned 18 in September, but Spears paid child support until the teen finished high school this month.
Britney Spears was initially ordered to pay child support to Kevin Federline in 2007 following their divorce. He was granted sole physical custody of their sons in 2008. While Spears was initially ordered to pay Federline $20,000 per month, he returned to court several years later looking for an increase.
Federline insisted that the payment did not cover the costs for both boys once he had sole custody of them. A judge agreed. In 2018, Spears was ordered to pay $40,000 monthly to support her sons. That order was in place until 2023 when Sean Preston Federline turned 18. She paid $20,000 monthly from late 2023 until late 2024, when Jayden James Federline graduated from high school, two months after his 18th birthday. According to several sources, Spears made the child support payments on time without any pushback.
How much money did Britney Spears spend on child support?
So, exactly how much has the troubled icon paid to her ex-husband over the years? The amount is pretty shocking. The initial custody order went into effect in October 2007. Presumably, the child support order started then.
Between October 2007 and late 2017, Spears paid $2.4 million in child support. From 2018 until 2023, she spent an additional $2.8 million in support payments. During her final year of payments, she shelled out $240,000 to support Jayden James. In total, Britney Spears paid Kevin Federline $5.4 million.
Federline has several additional children, including two older children from a previous relationship and two younger children from his current marriage. Federline married Victoria Prince in 2013.
