Does Britney Spears’ Dad, Jamie Spears, Have a Job?
Britney Spears’ dad, Jamie Spears, remains co-conservator of her estate after a Feb. 11, 2021 hearing. However, Britney Spears wishes to remove her father’s control from her personal and financial affairs.
Jamie filed for a conservatorship over Britney in 2008 when she underwent psychiatric evaluations. However, the temporary conservatorship was extended and remained in place 13 years later. Britney refuses to perform until her father is removed from control of her estate.
Britney Spears’ dad, Jamie Spears, was a welder in the ’70s
When Britney Spears’ parents met in the mid-seventies, Jamie Spears was a welder. Britney’s mother, Lynne, detailed her relationship with Jamie in her 2008 memoir, Through the Storm.
“Jamie was a welder by trade,” Lynne wrote in her book. “In those days, he would take one-, two-, or three-month jobs at oil refineries all over the place.”
Jamie and Lynne married during one of these jobs in Oswego, New York. Instead of the traditional Southern wedding, the couple married at the Justice of the Peace in 1976.
Britney Spears’ parents built a health spa together
In the 1980s, Britney Spears’ dad had a booming construction business. So, Jamie and Lynne decided to open a health and wellness spa together.
“This was in the early eighties, mind you, years before spas were to become popular,” Lynne explained. “For our area especially, a spa was a novel enterprise altogether.”
She added that health and wellness became a part of their everyday life together because of their business. Lynne describes the time as a wonderful one for their family because Jamie was not drinking at the time. Instead, he poured all of his energy into growing his businesses.
Jamie Spears is retired in 2021
Running Britney’s conservatorship is likely Jamie Spears’ only job at this point in his life. The 69-year-old grandfather to Britney’s two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, isn’t permitted to see his grandchildren. He is estranged from Britney as well.
A restraining order was obtained against Britney Spears’ dad by Kevin Federline on Sept. 4, 2019. Jamie allegedly broke down a door to reach Sean Preston and grabbed him.
“There was a disagreement that occurred while Britney and the children were visiting with Jamie at his home that led to a physical altercation that was observed by Jayden,” Los Angeles divorce attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told NBC News. “Britney did the right thing and removed the children and took them out of there, but the trauma to the kids is nonetheless.”
The restraining order prevents Jamie from seeing his grandchildren at all. Britney Spears’ dad is retired at this point, aside from controlling his daughter’s estate.
