Is Britney Spears Involved In The New Netflix Documentary ‘Britney vs. Spears’?
Seven months after Hulu dropped the heart-wrenching New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, Netflix has teased the trailer for yet another film about Britney Spears’ life and ongoing conservatorship battle. The upcoming documentary Britney vs. Spears, which is due out on Sept. 28, will explore the singer’s 13-year conservatorship in more detail and highlight the damage that was inflicted on her life by those closest to her.
With the film’s release date right around the corner, many want to know more about the new project, including whether or not Spears was involved.
‘Britney vs Spears’ will investigate the legal controversy surrounding Britney Spears
Hulu’s Framing Britney Spears spotlighted the singer’s fight to end her years-long conservatorship. However, the new Netflix documentary Britney vs Spears is expected to go into even more detail about the legal battle that’s taken a significant toll on her life.
On Sept. 22, Netflix released the trailer for the upcoming film. The documentary looks to recall the alleged abuse Spears has endured under her ongoing conservatorship.
According to the LA Times, Britney vs Spears will investigate the legal battle over who can control the singer’s finances and personal life. The film will also take a critical look at Spears’ relationship with her family, who many believe are using the conservatorship for their own financial gain.
The documentary is set to premiere on Sept. 28, which according to the outlet, coincides with the next legal hearing in the “Lucky” singer’s conservatorship case scheduled for Sept. 29.
Did Britney Spears participate in the making of the new documentary?
Seeing as the new Netflix documentary will focus on Britney Spears’ life and career, some wonder if the singer had a hand in making the upcoming movie.
Though many celebrities nowadays greatly contribute to projects that focus on their life experiences, Spears was not involved in the film.
While speaking with the LA Times, Britney vs Spears’ filmmaker and director Erin Lee Carr shared that she tried to get in touch with the singer about the project but came to a dead end.
“I always hoped and dreamed and wished and prayed to the documentary gods,” Carr said. “I tried to contact her repeatedly. But I had to sit with the understanding that it was unlikely ever to happen.”
Carr even tried to Spears a letter but said that she didn’t have high hopes about getting a response back.
“I sent her a letter and I have reason to believe that she was able to read it,” she shared. “I think she’s focusing on her new beau.
Britney Spears could barely bring herself to watch ‘Framing Britney Spears’
Britney Spears’ disinterest in lending a hand to Britney vs Spears doesn’t come as a big surprise.
After the release of Framing Britney Spears, Page Six reported that the singer had a hard time watching the most traumatic moments of her life replayed onscreen.
“There are parts of the film that were too hard and emotional for her to watch — the scenes that describe the most difficult times of her life, the relentless media circus and the harsh focus on her as a young mother,” a source said. “But, she feels, for the first time in many years, that people are on her side and things will get better for her.”
The singer gave her honest take on the documentary three months later. She described the documentaries made about her life as “so hypocritical” in a lengthy Instagram post.
“Geez!!!!” Spears penned. “2021 is definitely way better than 2020 but I never knew it was gonna be like THIS 😳😳😳 !!!! So many documentaries about me this year with other people’s takes on my life … what can I say … I’m deeply flattered !!!! These documentaries are so hypocritical … they criticize the media and then do the same thing 🤔🤔🤔????? Damn … I don’t know y’all but I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I’ve had some pretty tough times in my life … I’ve had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life and unfortunately my friends.”
As of this writing, Spears has not commented on the upcoming Netflix documentary. But seeing as she didn’t have a problem speaking out against the other nonfiction films made about her life, she may choose to share her honest opinion on the new doc.
