‘Brokenhearted’ Princess Beatrice Is Avoiding Dad Prince Andrew Amid ‘A Very Royal Scandal’
Amazon Prime Video’s new series, A Very Royal Scandal, has Princess Beatrice steering clear of her father, Prince Andrew. The 36-year-old is reportedly “brokenhearted” over the show. It depicts the events leading up to the Duke of York’s infamous 2019 Newsnight interview. Now Beatrice is determined to stop being Andrew’s “peacemaker.”
Beatrice is ‘sick of being humiliated’ by Andrew
Being depicted in A Very Royal Scandal—similar to Netflix’s Scoop—has embarrassed Beatrice (via OK! Magazine). The miniseries premiered on Sept. 19, 2024. Michael Sheen plays Andrew as he navigates allegations against him related to his Jeffrey Epstein association culminating in the interview.
Widely panned, the now-64-year-old royal found himself benched from official duties. Andrew also lost patronages and his HRH (His Royal Highness) status.
A source described Beatrice as a “daddy’s girl” who is “sick of being humiliated.” The insider also claimed Andrew’s interview re-entering the news “devastated” her.
She’s avoiding Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s Royal Lodge home
The source also claimed Beatrice hasn’t paid her parents, Sarah Ferguson and John Ferguson, any visits at their Royal Lodge home in Windsor, England, in some time. “It’s a stress-hole there. And for some reason, Beatrice always gets stuck in the middle of things, playing peacemaker on behalf of her dad.”
The Royal Lodge, where Beatrice spent most of her formative years, is at the center of some drama between Andrew and his older brother, King Charles III. Andrew reportedly wants to stay despite not maintaining the property, a violation of his lease. Meanwhile, King Charles wants him to downsize to a smaller royal residence.
Beatrice has been there for Andrew through all of it. But that’s changing. “She doesn’t want to be doing that anymore,” the source claimed. “And she recognizes it’s been a pattern all her life.
Although she’s “broken-hearted” by the situation, “no one wants to be around him when he’s dealing with so much right now.”
‘Anxious’ Beatrice joined Andrew for a meeting with the ‘Newsnight’ team in 2019
Beatrice had a small role in her father’s Newsnight interview. She joined him for a meeting with Sam McAlister, a producer on the show, and host Emily Maitlis.
McAlister shared how it had surprised her in Andrew – The Problem Prince. “Around the corner comes his daughter, Princess Beatrice. That was really quite a curve ball of curve balls,” she said in the documentary (via Newsweek).
“Can you imagine being in Buckingham Palace about to talk to a member of the royal family about sexual offences [sic]? That’s pretty tricky. And now I’ve got to do it in front of his daughter?”
In her 2022 book, Scoops, McAlister noted that Beatrice appeared “polite and engaged” in the meeting. Although “unlike her father, she was evidently anxious about the meeting and clearly there to protect his interests.”
“I’d heard she was close to the Queen [Elizabeth II],” McAlister wrote. “The prince’s eldest daughter was now, I felt, the person who could make the difference between us getting the interview or not.”
