Bruno Mars was one of the biggest hitmakers of the 2010s. The singer’s first album, 2010’s Doo-Wops and Hooligans, kicks off his career in epic fashion. Debuting with several international hits, Mars’ music career has only grown since then. However, with a string of popular tracks under his belt, even Mars’ longtime fans might have forgotten about his first big hit.

Bruno Mars’ songs include ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Just the Way You Are’

Mars’ impact on the music business cannot be underestimated. With only three solo albums in his discography, the singer has demonstrated he knows exactly what it takes to take over the charts. Take, for instance, Mars’ biggest hit songs. Early singles include number-one tracks “Just the Way You Are,” “Grenade,” and “The Lazy Song” and “Marry You” and “Count on Me.”

His second and third albums spawned even more chart-toppers. “Locked Out of Heaven,” “When I Was Your Man,” “24K Magic,” “That’s What I Like,” and “Finesse” all hit the top 10. And that’s not even counting collaborations with Travie McCoy, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, and Mark Ronson on “Billionaire,” “Young, Wild & Free,” and “Uptown Funk,” respectively.

What was Bruno Mars’ first big hit?

Much like those other collaborative hits, Mars’ first huge hit didn’t come from one of his own albums. In fact, the year before Doo-Wops & Hooligans hit the shelves, the singer co-wrote and performed on rapper B.o.B’s song “Nothin’ on You.” The track was actually the first single for of both artists’ careers. And its ascension to number one on the charts served as the perfect introduction.

Of course, Mars has a reputation for writing hit songs for other artists. Before his own singing career kicked off, he wrote songs for Adam Levine, Flo Rida, Brandy, and Sean Kingston, among others. Perhaps this early experience is part of why Mars tends to have the Midas touch. Even as a featured artist, he almost always elevates a track into a breakout hit.
