Is BTS Performing at the 2020 Grammy Awards?
They’re one of the biggest boy bands in the world and now, fans wonder if they’ll have a chance to show it off at one of the biggest nights for the music industry. Will BTS attend or perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards? Here’s what we know about this K-pop group and the upcoming award ceremony.
The K-pop group, BTS presented an award at the 2019 Grammy Awards
This boy band made history at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Last year, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, V, Jimin, and Jungkook took the stage to present the award for R&B Album Of the Year. As “Fake Love” played in the background, BTS became the first K-pop group to present an award at the Grammys.
“Growing up in South Korea, we always dreamed about standing on the Grammy stage,” RM said during his speech. “Thank you for all our fans for making this dream come true. And we’ll be back.”
With the 2020 Grammy’s taking place on Jan. 26, 2020, some armys are wondering whether or not this K-pop group will attend. Even more, with the group’s album Map of the Soul: 7 premiering during February 2020, fans are wondering if BTS will hit the stage and perform at the upcoming award ceremony.
Will BTS attend or perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards?
Unfortunately, this K-pop group and their management company, Big Hit Entertainment, has not announced if BTS will attend the 2020 Grammy Awards. However, according to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, on Jan. 14, iHeartRadio announced a live show event with BTS, to take place on Monday, Jan. 27. The show, presented by Hot Topic, will be filmed at the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles.
Because this is only one day following the Grammy Awards, some fans suspect the boys will make an appearance at this award show. As far as singing and dancing at the Grammys, BTS has not yet been confirmed as performers. So far, the list of artists performing at the Grammy Awards includes Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Aerosmith, Gwen Stefani, and Blake Shelton.
Is BTS nominated for any Grammy Awards?
It was initially reported that BTS put multiple songs up for Grammy consideration. However, the group did not earn any nominations this year. Halsey, another artist who appeared on the BTS album, Map of the Soul: Persona, did not receive any nominations at this award show, either.
This is not the first time this boy band has been overlooked at award shows. The 2019 VMAs sparked outrage amongst K-pop fans. Although BTS’ “Boy With Luv” broke YouTube records for the most views within 24 hours of its release, this music video was not nominated in the “Video of the Year” category.
Some fans of BTS are calling for a boycott of the Grammys in protest. Others fans are wondering if the group will perform at the award show, anyway. One Twitter user said, “I won’t be upset if BTS performs at the Grammys or not. I think it’s worth noting that the Academy cannot control the voters. The voters [consist] of artists, producers, songwriters, etc. from around the world, and while the Academy has been hyping up BTS, the voters bias won out.”
It’s also worth noting that in November 2019, Billboard reported the suits worn by BTS during the 2019 Grammy’s would be on display at the Grammy Museum with the On The Red Carpet exhibit, presented by Delta. More information about the upcoming award show will presumably be announced in the coming week.
Music by BTS, including Map of the Soul: Persona, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms. Map of the Soul: 7 debuts on Feb. 21, 2020.
