During the 2021 Grammy Awards, BTS performed their hit song “Dynamite.” The Korean band was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. While the Recording Academy’s treatment of BTS throughout the Grammy Awards was less than ideal, BTS’ performance was still a stellar display of their talent.

BTS performed ‘Dynamite’ at the Grammy Awards

In 2020, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook took part in the “Old Town Road All-Stars” medley with Billy Ray Cyrus, Lil Nas X, Diplo, and Mason Ramsey. By doing so, the K-pop group made history by becoming the first Korean act to perform at the Grammy Awards.

The band had previously made history in 2019 by becoming the first Korean act to present an award at the Grammy Awards. The 2021 Grammy Awards on March 14 marked BTS’ third consecutive appearance at the awards show.

This year, BTS performed their first solo stage at the Grammy Awards, making it a momentous occasion. To top it off, the band performed “Dynamite” as Grammy-nominated artists thanks to their nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

BTS recreated the Grammy set for the performance

BTS’ performance did not occur until the end of the Grammy Awards, and they were one of the last acts to perform. The “Dynamite” performance brought some exciting energy to the awards show.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook could not travel to the U.S. for the Grammy Awards. Instead, the band filmed their performance in Seoul, South Korea.

Dressed in colorful suits, the members kicked off the performance dancing in a set that resembled the Grammy Awards. The band then moved up a staircase to perform the rest of the song on the top of a skyscraper.

With the city skyline of Seoul behind them, the BTS members were the stars of the night while also performing up “in the stars” as the lyrics of “Dynamite” go.

ARMY reacted to the performance

For fans of BTS, the 2021 Grammy Awards were bittersweet. On the one hand, the band accomplished a great deal and put on a magnificent performance.

However, it was still hard for fans to watch the BTS members be essentially used for viewers and relevance. Still, after the band’s Grammy set aired, BTS fans celebrated the performance on social media.

One fan wrote on Reddit, “Yoongi was dancing It was so nice to see them all perform & dance together again. The performance was lovely!”

“I think BTS would feel really proud about them getting to show off the Seoul skyline in a Grammys performance. So it wasn’t the dance breaks we usually get, but I feel like that alone is really special,” a Reddit user wrote.

“I didn’t expect to cry during their performance… Seeing them perform tonight with all their energy and their effort especially when they rebuilt that grammy set and when they were walking towards the rooftop made teared up. They were breathtaking,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
