BTS Cancel Trip to US After Grammy Awards Postponement
The 2022 Grammy Awards were originally set to take place on Jan. 31. However, the Recording Academy postponed the 2022 Grammy Awards indefinitely due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. After the award show postponement, Big Hit Music revealed that BTS‘ plans to attend the Grammy Awards changed.
The Recording Academy postponed the Grammy Awards
The Recording Academy released a statement regarding the postponement of the 2022 Grammy Awards on Jan. 5.
The Recording Academy’s statement reads:
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy® and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards® Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night® on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
BTS’ plans to attend the 2022 Grammy Awards changed
At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, BTS are nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song “Butter.” This is BTS’ second nomination in the category, as they were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards for their song “Dynamite.”
At the award show, BTS are nominated alongside Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga with “I Get a Kick Out of You,” Coldplay for “Higher Power,” Doja Cat featuring SZA with “Kiss Me More,” and Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco for “Lonely.”
After the Recording Academy announced the 2022 Grammy Awards are postponed, Big Hit Music released a statement about BTS’ plans for the award show.
“We were preparing to attend the awards ceremony, but we stopped discussion after hearing the news of the postponement. However, the concert in Seoul that is scheduled in March will be held without a hitch,” Big Hit Music wrote according to Soompi.
Jimin of BTS wants the band to attend the award show
As of right now, it is unclear if BTS will be able to attend the rescheduled date for the 2022 Grammy Awards. While Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook are currently on vacation, the septet will release a new album in 2022. The band is also expected to hold Permission to Dance On Stage – Seoul concerts sometime in March.
Before the Recording Academy announced the postponement of the 2022 Grammy Awards, the members of BTS were interviewed by Vogue Korea. In his interview with Vogue Korea, Jimin shared his hopes that BTS will be able to attend the award show in person.
“Winning a Grammy wasn’t something we’d ever thought about, and I can’t believe we’ve been nominated! It would be great to win the award and make our fans happy. But just being nominated is wonderful,” Jimin told Vogue Korea.
The BTS singer added, “If possible, we want to be there, and we want to perform.”
