BTS Will Debut ‘Permission to Dance’ on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’
When it comes to late-night talk shows, BTS’ appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon are unmatched. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have performed on the show multiple times. On July 13 and July 14, BTS will take part in a two-night event and appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. BTS will perform their hit single “Butter” and make their debut performance of their new single “Permission to Dance.”
BTS will debut ‘Permission to Dance’ on ‘The Tonight Show’
Over the years, The Tonight Show has proved to be a welcoming environment for BTS. Some of the septet’s best TV performances have taken place on the show, and Fallon always goes out of his way to create unique experiences with the group, ranging from interviews to games.
After multiple successful appearances, BTS will return to The Tonight Show to perform “Butter” and “Permission to Dance.”
Deadline reports BTS will debut “Permission to Dance” on July 13, writing:
“The two-night musical event will kick off Tuesday, July 13. On the first night, the K-pop sensation will present the U.S. television debut of ‘Permission To Dance’ and chat with the late-night host about all that’s new for BTS. The night after, Wednesday, July 14; BTS will perform their latest hit ‘Butter,’ which has held steady in the No. 1 slot of Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart for the past six weeks.”
In 2018, BTS performed “IDOL” and “I’m Fine” on The Tonight Show. After releasing their album Map of the Soul: 7 in February 2020, BTS performed their single “ON” and joined Fallon for a BTS-themed episode around New York City.
From Sept. 28, 2020, to Oct. 2, 2020, The Tonight Show put on “BTS Week.” For the five-day residency, the band performed their songs “IDOL,” “Home,” “Black Swan,” “Mikrokosmos,” and “Dynamite.”
BTS will release ‘Permission to Dance’ on July 9
On July 9, BTS will release a physical CD of their single “Butter.” The CD will include four tracks including a new song called “Permission to Dance.” The four songs on the album are “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” “Butter (Instrumental),” and “Permission to Dance (Instrumental).”
A press release describes “Permission to Dance” as a song “that will get your heart pumping.” Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac, Johnny McDaid, and Jenna Andrews co-wrote the song, and Mac, Stephen Kirk, and Andrews produced it.
On July 6, Big Hit Music released a music video teaser for “Permission to Dance.” The teaser showed Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook in denim outfits. The music video for “Permission to Dance” will premiere at midnight EDT on July 9.
BTS’ song ‘Butter’ has dominated the Billboard Hot 100
BTS released “Butter” on May 21, and the song is the group’s second English-language single. “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band’s fourth No. 1 on the chart.
Since BTS dropped the song, “Butter” has spent six consecutive weeks on the Hot 100. Previously, BTS’ first English-language single and first No. 1 song on the Hot 100, “Dynamite,” spent three non-consecutive weeks at No. 1.
With BTS’ upcoming appearance on The Tonight Show, it is clear the septet’s domination in the U.S. is not slowing down.
