It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. In late May, BTS teased their upcoming Festa 2020 event in June. As expected, members of ARMY reminisced over the South Korean band’s journey since their 2013 debut. Meanwhile, others got to work to decipher what this year’s theme will be. And basically, if the fan theories are spot on, 2020 BTS Festa will leave everyone feeling a little emotional.

What is BTS Festa all about?

BTS Festa is the celebration of the group’s anniversary — June 13, 2013 — with ARMY. Every year, the seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — will release a feast of content from the start of the month to the band’s debut day.

Typically, BTS fans expect to see a family portrait and updated member profiles reflecting on the past year. Festa also includes video content, which can range from choreography to a fun chat among the group as they answer questions. Then at least one member will release a new song. But regardless of what contents are unveiled, Festa is ultimately a celebration for BTS and ARMY.

BTS releases a promo teaser for Festa 2020

When the clock struck midnight in Korea on Thursday, May 28, BTS dropped a 14-second teaser for 2020 Festa on their social media channels. The promo kicked off with the Magic Shop door from the band’s 5th Muster fan meeting. Then “Young Forever” started playing in the background as the clip zoomed in on the door’s window.

Eventually, the window turned into seven square panels, alternating between a blue-silver galaxy and a desert sand pattern. Then a blue biplane flew up through each of the seven panels. And as the plane disappeared, roses popped up in every other panel.

Finally, fans received confirmation about the event with the 2020 BTS Festa logo. The teaser ended back at the beginning with the Magic Shop door.

Meanwhile, BTS wrote different captions for their social media channels. On Twitter, the caption for the teaser said, “The New Journey to #2020BTSFESTA.” Then on Instagram, the caption read, “Here is my secret. #2020BTSFESTA.”

When BTS dropped the trailer for Festa 2020, fans started the celebration early on social media, sharing content from previous years. ARMYs also expressed their excitement over the forthcoming event, particularly because this year marks the seventh anniversary.

“This year’s festa is going to be very special for all of us,” a fan wrote on Twitter. “I can’t believe it’s been seven years already with BTS and ARMY, this is family.”

Meanwhile, some fans started theorizing why certain elements were used in the 2020 BTS Festa trailer, including the presence of “Young Forever.”

“OK but the fact they’re using young forever as the background music for the festa 2020 video has to mean something, i mean look at the lyrics,” a fan tweeted. “They’re all about chasing ur dream even when it seems hopeless & bts have always been about that.”

Then many members of ARMY pointed out possible references to The Little Prince, a beloved children’s novel written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

“It’s a biplane specifically, and there are roses and space, and The Little Prince is a famous story that includes all three of those elements,” a fan wrote on Twitter

BTS fans also noticed the Instagram caption about 2020 Festa took a line from the story.

“Here’s where the quote comes in: the little prince failed to love his rose properly. but through an encounter with a fox, he understood that specific rose was the most precious to him,” a fan explained. “The fox says: ‘now here is my secret, a very simple secret…’”

Some fans then wondered how The Little Prince could tie into BTS’s narrative.

“In the book the Little Prince fell in love with a rose. The rose symbolizes love but it also shows how complicated and demanding that love is,” a fan wrote. “Not saying it’s about BTS and ARMY per se, but it resonates a little.”

But however 2020 BTS Festa turns out, many fans seem to believe a connection to The Little Prince would be — dare we say it — serendipitous.

“The Little Prince is the most-translated non-religious book in the world. Its messages have crossed every barrier of culture and touched hearts worldwide,” a fan wrote on Twitter. “It’s special to many, many people. I love that @BTS_twt has chosen this theme for #2020BTSFESTA.”
