BTS: Jungkook Hides Arm Tattoos Under His Sleeve, But Nothing Can Get Past ARMY
Mark your calendars, because 2019 is officially the year BTS’ Jungkook shed his baby image in exchange for long hair and arm tattoos hidden under his sleeves. At the BTS ‘Love Yourself: Speak Yourself’ [The Final] concert, the “Euphoria” singer debuted his recently-cut curls. However, Jungkook’s long hair was still featured in the new VCR and his hand tattoos remained — and then some. As it turns out, Jungkook recently got a few tats on his right arm, and some fans pointed out the new ink could be considered the start of a sleeve tattoo. But, even if it all turns out to be temporary rather than permanent, ARMY is so here for it.
Fans spot Jungkook’s arm sleeve tattoo during the BTS ‘Love Yourself: Speak Yourself’ [The Final] concert
Throughout the first two days of the ‘Love Yourself: Speak Yourself’ [The Final] show, BTS fans couldn’t help but awe at Jungkook’s latest arm tattoos in addition to the ones promptly displayed on his right hand.
For those of you who may not remember, Jungkook sported some new ink when he showed up at the airport after BTS officially ended their period of rest. Of course, some members of ARMY speculated if Jungkook’s hand tattoos were real or fake. However, the music artist has continuously presented his new hand tats on multiple occasions.
Then at BTS’ Saudi Arabia concert in early October, fans wondered if Jungkook got a sleeve tattoo on his right arm when ARMY released a few photos on social media. However, the images didn’t exactly show the singer’s bare skin — just his arm beneath a seemingly seethrough shirt.
Nevertheless, at the shows in Seoul, it became abundantly clear Jungkook has more tattoos on his arm than BTS fans previously anticipated. That said, the “Begin” crooner merely teased his new ink, only flashing a quarter of his right arm. But, of course, ARMY still had something to say.
ARMY predicts the meaning behind Jungkook’s sleeve tattoos
As of now, BTS fans have only uncovered a few brief flashes of Jungkook’s arm tattoos peeking through his long sleeves. Two of them seem to feature designs. Then from what ARMY can tell, the third is simply text, spelling out the letters, “HAN COOL.”
Since the BTS member’s sleeve covers the other half of the text, many fans theorized the line reads, “Rather be dead than cool.” This is a lyric from Nirvana’s song “Stay Away.”
Longtime members of ARMY were quick to point out the meaning behind Jungkook’s arm tattoo. “Rather be dead than cool” is the singer’s motto. He previously mentioned this on VLIVE and within his BTS Festa profile for 2014. Some fans also noted the saying roughly means the same thing as Jungkook’s other favorite line: “I’d rather die than to live without any passion.”
Other fans on Twitter then connected Jungkook’s tattoo to Jimin’s “Nevermind” ink on his side. Both are direct references to Nirvana, as “Stay Away” is a track on the band’s Nevermind album. Meanwhile, some ARMY delved in deeper and wondered if all the Nirvana references throughout the Love Yourself tour allude to BTS’ future comeback concept.
One Twitter user explained: “What if this a concept cuz Jungkook has ‘I’d rather be dead than cool’ on his arm, and Jimin has Nevermind on his chest (the album ‘Stay Away’ is on) and THEN TAEHYUNGS NIRVANA SHIRT AND ‘In Bloom’ on the wall WHICH IS ALSO OFF NEVERMIND.”
BTS fans react to Jungkook’s sleeve tattoo on social media
Regardless of what Jungkook’s arm tattoos actually mean, it certainly feels like the beginning of a new era. And fans were ready to share their excitement on social media.
“JUNGKOOK’S SLEEVE TATTOO,” an ARMY tweeted. “WE WERENT SEEING THINGS, ITS FVCKIN REAL OMFG IM YELLINGGGG.”
“Y’all don’t understand how happy this is making me like not to make f*cking tattoos sappy or anything but if you’ve just been listening to Jungkook over all these years he’s talked about wanting to get them for so damn long,” another fan wrote. “And now he has and one of them is his MOTTO I’ll crY.”
For now, it seems Jungkook isn’t ready to explain his new ink. He also hasn’t shared whether it’s real, fake, or confirmed the meaning behind the tattoo. And quite frankly, he doesn’t have to. But luckily, fans are willing to go with whatever the singer is comfortable with moving forward.
“If Jungkook decides to wear long sleeves for the rest of his life, that’s ok. When he’s ready to completely show his tattoo, that’ll be ok too,” a Twitter user explained. “If he decides to never show it then that’s fine- it’s pretty just like him, that’s all I want him to know.”
