BTS usually releases a Japanese album every two years

BTS frequently releases Japanese versions of their Korean-language songs as well as original singles. Back in 2019, BTS released a Japanese single titled “Lights” along with Japanese versions of their songs “Boy With Luv” and “IDOL.”

The group typically releases a Japanese studio album every two years. Their first Japanese album was called Wake Up and was released on Dec. 24, 2014. Their second Japanese studio album Youth came out on Sept. 7, 2016, and their most recent Japanese album Face Yourself came out on April 4, 2018.

Because it has been two years since BTS last released a Japanese studio album, fans began speculating the group could release another in 2020. In March 2020, it was announced BTS would release a song called “Stay Gold” for the Japanese drama Rasen no Meikyū (Helical Labyrinth), and that “Stay Gold” would be the theme song for the drama. This further confirmed fans’ suspicions that the group would release a new Japanese album in 2020.

Jungkook composed a song on BTS’s new album

“Stay Gold” and Rasen no Meikyū (Helical Labyrinth) were originally set to be released in April 2020. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak delayed the song and series.

At the beginning of May 2020, it was announced BTS will release their fourth Japanese studio album Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~. The album has 13 songs, including “Lights” and Japanese versions of BTS’s hits “Boy With Luv,” “Make It Right,” “Dionysus,” “IDOL,” “Airplane Pt. 2,” “FAKE LOVE,” “Black Swan,” and “ON.”

Map of the Soul: 7 ~ The Journey ~ will also include four new songs. “INTRO: Calling,” “Stay Gold,” “Your eyes tell,” and “OUTRO: The Journey.” Jungkook played a hand in composing the song “Your eyes tell.”
