BTS’ ‘Louder Than Bombs’ Meaning — According to Fans
“Louder Than Bombs” may be one of the “B-sides” of Map of the Soul: 7. After winning an Instagram poll and earning over 100 million Spotify plays, though, this song proved to be a favorite among ARMYs everywhere. Here’s some of the symbolism in this song, according to BTS fans.
BTS’ ‘Louder than Bombs’ became a fan favorite song from ‘Map of the Soul: 7’
This award-winning K-pop group is known for “Butter,” “Permission to Dance,” “Life Goes On,” and “Dynamite.” They have plenty of fan-favorite B-side tracks though, including “Louder than Bombs.”
This song was co-written by Troye Sivan, with BTS including it on their 2020 release Map of the Soul: 7. It featured all seven BTS members (Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) and earned over 130 million Spotify plays.
ARMYs interpreted the meaning behind BTS’ ‘Louder Than Bombs’
BTS sometimes leaves the meaning of group songs open to fans’ interpretations. “Louder Than Bombs” took on special meaning for ARMYs with some looking for meaning in its official lyrics.
According to one Genius interpretation, as with some BTS songs, this song might be about the cross between pain and success. It could also be about the cross between fighting for better days.
“In the first chorus, BTS say how they go through a significant suffering, described as breaking louder than bombs,” the website reads. “Throughout the song, they describe how they hope for better days and then leading into how they will fight against any hard times while accepting it as they chose to be artists.”
“They begin to develop confidence as can be seen and they’re no longer afraid and will not run away anymore,” it continues. “The song ends with BTS saying how they’ve taken the pain and fear and after accepting it and moving past it, they’re now singing louder than bombs with confidence and determination for even greater things to come.”
Of course, the “bombs” in the “Louder the Bombs” title is a reference to BTS’ full band name, “bulletproof boy scouts,” and the name of their lightsticks — ARMY bombs. This wouldn’t be the only war/miliary theme in BTS’ music, as this K-pop group also released “We Are Bullletproof: The Eternal.”
“Your silent sadness, it shakes me In my quiet sea, waves would sometimes rise,” some of the first verse states, according to an English translation.
ARMYs voted for ‘Louder Than Bombs’ in a mysterious Instagram poll following the ‘Proof’ announcement
Proof will be available for streaming as of June 10, 2022, complete with three new original tracks and demo versions of already-released songs. As a fan-favorite release, “Louder Than Bombs” was included on a mysterious Instagram poll a few weeks before, with ARMYs choosing this song over “Paradise” and “Heartbeat.”
Even though it was released several years ago, BTS rarely performs this song live. For the Permission to Dance on Stage concerts, the K-pop group focused on recently released hits, including their Grammy-nominated single “Butter.”
