BTS Discussed the ‘Map of the Soul’ Tour and Their Honesty Will Break You
As BTS prepares for Bang Bang Con The Live on June 14, members of ARMY continue to miss the South Korean band. The group was meant to be on their Map of the Soul world tour. However, the concerts were either canceled or postponed. Then when BTS released their 2020 Festa Party video, the septet — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — opened up about rescheduling the Map of the Soul tour and missing ARMY.
BTS postponed and canceled the ‘Map of the Soul’ world tour dates in 2020
On Feb. 28, Big Hit Entertainment canceled the Map of the Soul opening concerts in Seoul because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The concerts were originally scheduled for mid-April 2020. Then as the outbreak continued to impact the world, the company announced the Map of the Soul tour will be rescheduled.
“The decision has been made to completely reschedule BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR, originally scheduled to begin in April, 2020,” Big Hit Entertainment said in a statement. “With the global proliferation of COVID-19, the tour’s Seoul performances were previously cancelled in February with the subsequent postponement of the North American leg of the tour in March.”
BTS opened up about missing ARMY while celebrating Festa 2020
It’s been a while since BTS has been able to connect with ARMY in person. Not only did the band reschedule their world tour, but they were also unable to perform in front of an audience during promotions for the Map of the Soul: 7 comeback. Even so, BTS continued with their promotions and other works. Then when Festa 2020 came along, the seven members were able to virtually celebrate their seventh anniversary with fans.
“We were supposed to be having a great time and making good memories with ARMY by now,” RM said in the 2020 Festa Birthday Party video. “The whole world is going through a hard time right now. So we can’t help but postpone meeting ARMY. But FESTA was a good opportunity to show you a glimpse of how we are doing.”
Meanwhile, a few BTS members shared how they felt without ARMY while promoting Map of the Soul: 7.
“I realized how important ARMY is to us through your absence,” Jimin said. “It really felt empty without ARMY. We all know that you support us from near and far when we topped the charts. But I felt bad when I saw the empty space of ARMY who were always there.”
Then Suga added, “I mean, we prepared a lot for the comeback. We practiced a lot to show you amazing performances. We practiced more than ever before. I felt like, ‘Did we ever work this hard since our debut?’”
RM also revealed the band felt frustrated. However, they didn’t want to show that side of themselves to fans, and Jungkook agreed. “I worked harder not to show that,” he said.
BTS discussed the ‘Map of the Soul’ tour
Eventually, BTS’ discussion about missing ARMY moved on to their thoughts about postponing the Map of the Soul tour. And the members noted they were just as disappointed as fans.
“I thought we’d be able to meet ARMY for the concerts. But the situation now is what it is. So the concerts had to be delayed,” J-Hope said. “When I first heard our tour was postponed, frankly, it felt like everything was collapsing.”
Meanwhile, Jin explained BTS started preparing their tour a year in advance. So when the concerts were postponed, everyone was shocked. “We really wanted to be on stage. But we couldn’t,” Jin said. “All of that was heartbreaking.”
Jimin added, “Starting with the dates in Korea, all the concerts were being canceled. To be honest, we’ve been struggling emotionally because of that.”
That said, BTS doesn’t want fans to lose hope. They know they’ll see everyone again one day. And in the meantime, they will continue to do work hard for ARMY.
“We don’t know yet when we will perform again, we don’t know what will happen,” Jungkook said. “We will continue to work our best until we meet again. So please wait for us a little bit longer, even though it’s not easy. We prepared a lot of stuff so you don’t feel bored while waiting for us.”
