BTS Reveals What They Were Like In High School—and 1 Member Admits He Was a ‘Nerd’
Most members of BTS are all in their mid or late 20s, which means it has been a while since they were in high school. Many people’s personalities can change as they age and gain new life experiences. BTS is one of the most popular artists today, and they have no doubt seen lots of changes in their lives in the past few years. So what were they like back in their pre-fame, high school days? Find out below.
Were the BTS members in high school at the same time?
High school in South Korea lasts about three years, with most students graduating when they are 19 years old. The oldest BTS member, Jin, is about five years older than the youngest member, Jungkook, so the members were not all in high school at the same time.
Jungkook actually debuted with BTS when he was 15, so he was still in high school when his K-pop career started. Fans might remember seeing his graduation in 2017, with fellow BTS members present at his school.
Additionally, V and Jimin are the same age and attended Korea Arts High School together. They graduated in 2014, less than a year after BTS’s debut.
What were the members like in high school?
BTS recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they reminisced on their high school days. The group shared with Jimmy Fallon and viewers what they were like as students.
RM revealed he was a “nerd” back in high school, which is perhaps not surprisingly. Fans know the BTS leader as a book lover with a high IQ. RM said, “I was, like, kind of a nerd. I was all about studying. I just liked to listen to rap music like Eminem and Nas, but I was just a good student.”
Meanwhile, V compared himself to former schoolmate Jimin, saying, “I was always the one who slept in and was late for school, while Jimin was a diligent student.”
Jimin confirmed what V said, adding that he wanted to do his best at everything. “I was an exemplary student. Since I was in high school, I wanted to become a singer, so I left everything behind and came to Seoul,” Jimin revealed. “I did my best in everything and took on challenges, so my high school days were quite tough.”
Despite being a celebrity now, Jin shared that he did not draw much attention to himself as a high school student. “I didn’t stand out much. I was the typical quiet student who liked goofing around with friends,” he noted.
Suga revealed that school work was not his forte back then, and he focused more on his part-time jobs, saying, “I wasn’t that attached to school. I also had a part-time job back then. But my attendance was really good. I just wasn’t into schoolwork that much.”
Finally, J-Hope shared that he was quite popular in school, especially after he performed at a school festival.
