BTS’ RM Calls ARMY the ‘Proof’ of Their Existence
The BTS ARMY is known for its philanthropy and support of BTS. For RM, though, ARMYs are also “proof” of his existence. Here’s what this rapper said during the Permission to Dance on Stage concert.
BTS hosted their ‘Permission to Dance on Stage’ concerts in Los Angeles
After months of being physically distant from ARMYs, BTS appeared in a mini-residency at LA’s SoFi Stadium. The artists commented on their return to the stage, especially RM, who functions as the leader and unofficial translator for BTS.
RM shared that while working on recent releases like “Dynamite,” “Life Goes On,” and “Permission to Dance,” he felt “so sad” because he couldn’t see ARMYs face to face. Driving through LA and spending time in the stadium, RM said while motioning to the audience, “it felt like nothing.”
BTS RM described ARMY as the ‘proof of their existence’
Some know this boy band for its massive fan base, referred to as the BTS ARMY, hundreds of whom attended the Permission to Dance on Stage events. At one point during the concert, RM addressed the attendees, thanking them for their support.
“You guys are the proof of our existence,” RM said, as seen in one fan video. “Our values, our breath, our love, our peace, for everything — you guys are our goddamn proof. We are the bullet, and you guys are the proof. We’re now truly bulletproof.”
‘Permission to Dance on Stage’ is BTS’ first stadium performance since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic
Initially, BTS planned to embark on their Map of the Soul world tour during 2020, which has since been canceled by HYBE Corporation (formerly Bighit Entertainment). This was due to social distancing and safety concerns.
As these artists often point out, though, everything happens for a reason. Because they were not touring, BTS released their first all-English single, “Dynamite,” which broke YouTube records with its music video and earned the band its first Grammy nomination. BTS collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion for a remixed version of “Butter” and Coldplay for “My Universe.”
BTS has still spent plenty of time with ARMYs, though, whether it’s on V Live, with the variety show RUN BTS, or with interviews. The K-pop group also created Be (Deluxe Edition), playing a large role in the songwriting process. Jungkook even helped direct the “Life Goes On” music video.
One of the first times that BTS physically returned to the stage in the United States was the American Music Awards, which took place in November 2021. Of course, RM also noted the best part of the event was seeing fans “face-to-face” again.
“Loved the awards, loved the performances, but the best thing was just to see you guys finally. That’s literally everything. Let’s have a great time at SoFi,” RM tweeted, with one fan translating the final message, “hoping that we can meet in Korea soon, too!”
