BTS’ RM Reveals the ‘Best Thing’ About Going to the AMAs
BTS often shares their love for their ARMYs, some of whom even attended the American Music Awards to support the K-pop group and their live performances of “My Universe” and “Butter.” Here’s what RM said about the “best thing” that happened during the AMAs.
BTS performed ‘My Universe’ with Coldplay and ‘Butter’ at the AMAs
This boy band is smooth like butter. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook took home several titles at the American Music Awards, even performing two songs at the ceremony.
This day marked the first time BTS physically attended and performed at an award ceremony since the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. (They performed “Dynamite” at the 2021 Grammy Awards from South Korea.) Safety concerns also led HYBE Corporation, formerly Bighit Entertainment, to cancel BTS’ Map of the Soul world tour.
The AMAs were also the first time BTS and Coldplay linked up to perform “My Universe” live for fans. As a result, the members were sure to mention how historic their AMAs performance was.
“We’ve waited for this for like two years, so it’s crazy to be able to perform with actual people,” the rapper said during an interview with Access before the award ceremony began. “It’s been two years.”
BTS RM revealed the ‘best thing’ about attending the AMAs
This K-pop group spent time with Becky G, earned the Artist of the Year award, and posed for a selfie with Chloe Bailey. There was one aspect of this night that made it extra special, according to BTS’ leader RM.
“Loved the awards, loved the performances, but the best thing was just to see you guys finally. That’s literally everything. Let’s have a great time at SoFi,” RM tweeted, with one fan translating the final message, “hoping that we can meet in Korea soon, too!”
Other members of this K-pop group took to social media, sharing their experience with ARMYs. According to the Twitter translation, Jimin wrote, “it was a really meaningful day where I could see ARMYs who I’ve wanted to see so so much again after 2 years thank you from the bottom of my heart for waiting and thank you and thank you again I love you ARMY.”
BTS kicks off its SoFi Stadium residency in November 2021
The AMAs was just the beginning of BTS’ time in the United States. This K-pop group has several live performances scheduled for Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, all of which sold out of tickets in a matter of days.
This will be the first time the boy band will perform songs like “Permission to Dance,” “Black Swan,” and “Life Goes On” face-to-face with ARMYs. As a result, some fans took to social media sharing their excitement regarding the mini-residency.
Music by BTS, including “Butter,” is available on most major streaming platforms.
