BTS’ song ‘Butter’ spent another week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

So far, a total of five BTS songs have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.” Before the success of “Butter,” “Dynamite” was the band’s most successful song on the chart and remained at No. 1 for three non-consecutive weeks.

On Aug. 2, Billboard reported that “Butter” stayed at No. 1 for a ninth non-consecutive week and “drew 30.5 million radio airplay audience impressions (down 1%) and 8.1 million U.S. streams (down 8%) in the week ending July 29, according to MRC Data.”

The report also states, “The single holds at No. 21 on the Radio Songs chart and drops 40-44 on Streaming Songs. ‘Butter’ also sold 112,900 in the tracking week (down 2%), and tallies a ninth week atop Digital Song Sales.”

BTS previously replaced themselves on the Hot 100

On July 9, BTS released their third English-language single “Permission to Dance.” The song debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in its first week, replacing “Butter” at No. 1. The next week on July 26, “Butter” re-peaked at No. 1 and dethroned “Permission to Dance.” This resulted in “Butter” achieving its eighth week at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

According to Billboard, “BTS is the first act to displace itself at No. 1 with a new leader and then send the previous No. 1 back to the summit with no other acts holding the top spot in between” after “Butter” replaced “Permission to Dance.”

When “Permission to Dance” debuted at No. 1 and “Butter” was dethroned, “Butter” fell to No. 7 on the chart. After “Butter” returned to No. 1 on July 26, it traded places with “Permission to Dance” which dropped to No. 7. On Aug. 2, “Permission to Dance” remained in the top 10 spots on the Hot 100 but fell to No. 9 on the chart.

BTS could release new music soon

On July 27, BTS performed on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. In an interview on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge with Adele Roberts, Suga teased that the band might have new music on the horizon.

“I think the current trend in the music industry is at a point where there are no specific and clear cut genre boundaries,” he said. “For the singles that we’re releasing now, our biggest hope was for them to reach a lot of people. And I’m sure we’ll have more hip-hop tracks in future albums, so if you’d like to hear more of them, you shouldn’t have to wait too long. They might be released one day.”
